Tsunami due to hit my country soon.

Basically there was a magnitude 8 Earthquake today around the Solomon islands. Due to the quake it has caused a tsunami that is apparently currently on route to my country New Zealand. The time here is currently 5:18 and the first wave is meant t hit between 6 and 7 pm. I'll keep this updated with anything interesting on my part, otherwise you can just read the article. I live in Wellington by the way.

As for discussion, this is quite random to me but I'm not scared. I don't really live that close to any beaches that I think would be close enough to my house. The last time a disaster happened in New Zealand was the big Christchurch Earthquakes last year, there was 185 deaths and $30 Billion worth of damage. We're still in debt because of it so hopefully this tsunami wont make things much worse.

How far way are you from a beach? Is it going to get hit? Just a few miles away may not be good enough There are various factors that can determine how far a tsunami can go in land.

I live where the A is. A few beaches around but if you know anything about New Zealand you'd know it's a very thin country where you can get to a beach from anywhere in the country in 30 minutes. I am on high ground however.
