Understatement of the year.
Cartoons from the '80s and '90s were some of the best.

than most newer cartoons.
You know, I've heard a lot about Adventure Time, and I've seen commercials for it and thought to myself "Wow, that reminds me of Ren and Stimpy" with the sort of surreal animation behind it.
Does it have any Adult Double Entendres like Animaniacs had?

agreed. Though, there were a lot of great cartoons in the '90s that I think are much better than it. Ren and Stimpy, Freakazoid, Reboot, etc.

The funny thing about this is that the same generation who hated the 90s when they were kids, now pretty much love that decade now as adults. Nostalgia and revisionism tend to change a lot of people minds over the years, that and the fact that a lot of neat stuff happened in the 90s, and we just can't help but talk about the good old days.
Kind of makes me wonder what and/or when was the point where cartoons began their downward march to the gutter?
Just stop worrying, and love the bomb.

The 90's was a good time for cartoon, however it was the worst time for anime especially if you live in america.

Ever hear of toonami? that was full of anime back in the old days but even before then I remember seeing plenty of animes on different time slots you just had to know when to find them on.
But due to the laws of censorship as well as what america deemed ok and not ok for american children anime was thrown through the ringer. Most may not have known but if you had cousins who loved anime like mine did you would know that stuff.

Even though I was born in 1999, I have watched 90's television. Today I watched Kenan and Kel coz they're replaying the programme on New Zealand tv, and Fresh Prince of Bel Air and more.
I still remember playing on the PS1 when I was a kid..... aaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh good times. Oddworld Abe's Oddysee was some good shit.

Toonami only had three anime shows in the '90s. Those were DBZ, Robotech, and Sailor Moon. The rest was stuff like Batman, Thundercats, the Real Adventures of Johnny Quest, and other stuff. They didn't start getting a decent amount of anime until after 2000. It wasn't until after the new millennium that they got shows like Ronin Warriors, Gundam Wing, Tenchi Muyo, Outlaw Star, Blue Submarine Number 6, etc.

I will admit that it did have some pretty bad controls...and the storyline wasn't exactly "the best". But I still found it entertaining.
Also after awhile you get a better idea as to how the controls work and whatnot and it gets a hell of a lot easier to do stuff like that. Granted there are times when you have to position Abe in a certain spot or run and jump at a specific spot to get him to get to a different ledge and whatnot, but it generally just takes a bit of practice til you get it nailed.
But overall its not that hard of a game.

Yeah, Teen Nick still has some of those. I love the shit out of the Animaniacs, Hey Arnold and hell, even Doug (wasn't a huge fan though) that and the Simpsons and Pinky and the Brain, was Recess, on in the 90's? I don't think so but I liked that show anyways. Good shit back then, good shit. More than what there is today at least.
Adventure Time is terrible though, its hyper active imagination character designs and both Finn and Jake's personalities are neither likeable or funny. I find both to be annoying and actually rather lacking in personality, especially Finn, who just seems to rather react to what gets thrown at him rather than input an opinion with a personality. It just seems like the whole show is fueled by how weird it can be, how odd the characters can be and how they respond to be equally strange. It just leaves an overall poor taste in my mouth like a lemon.
You know what's a great modern cartoon? Gravity Falls. Fucking love that show and can't wait for the next season. It's got witty humor, amazing attention to detail, pretty good story telling, and awesome characters. They don't go too far and don't try to run out of the box trying to get views with weird or different characters. They rely on good ole fashion dialogue and story telling, which makes a great basis for a good show. I highly recommend it.

Abe's Odyssey was a good game, but it got ridiculously hard.
Stranger's Wrath is also great and it isn't painfully difficult.
