4.04 / 5.00 50,492 ViewsHi everyone!
I know you like comics. I know you like jam(s). Well lucky for you, it's that time of half-year again. The time of half-year for the Comic Jam.
This is the fourth Comic Jam I've run. Four. 4. If you know a thing or four about comics, you'll know that the number 'four' occurs in the title of the comic 'Fantastic Four'. We are under lucky stars my friends (Lucky Star is also a comic).
You can see the submissions of the last Comic Jam here, and the one before that here.
What is it?
Similar to the Game Jam, the Comic Jam is a competition in which everyone is given a theme, and tasked to create a narrative-based comic based on that theme within three days. The theme will be given at the beginning of those three days.
What is a narrative-based comic?
A comic that tells a story, as opposed to a simple gag comic of the likes of Garfield.
Can I work with (a) partner/s?
Certainly! If you're an artist that wants to join but you're worried you can't write, then you can join up with a writer to create some sort of super comic. The same goes if you are a writer that cannot draw.
Artists can also team up with other artists to create comics together, if they want. For example, one person could do line art while the other colours. Be creative!
You can use this thread to find a partner if you want to. But don't feel obligated to work with a partner, if you would prefer to work on your own.
How long should the comics be?
They can be any length you like, but the idea behind the Comic Jam is to create a comic that tells a story, which one-page comics are not necessarily well suited to. Ideally the comics should span a number of pages. Though don't necessarily feel limited to organising your comic into 'pages'. 'Infinite canvas' style comics are also a valid approach.
As usual, I, personally, will be challenging myself to create a 24-page comic (by myself) during the time (though I will not be competing, due to being a judge). If anyone wants to join me in that endeavour, then that's great, but not at all necessary. It's a super fun challenge though.
What are the prizes?
1st: $40 NG Store Credit
2nd: $30 NG Store Credit
3rd: $20 NG Store Credit
That sounds great! When is it?
The Comic Jam will begin at 12:01am EST on Friday the 22nd of February, when the theme is given, and will end at 11:59pm EST on Sunday the 24th of February.

Please use this thread for any questions relating to the Comic Jam. And if people post in the thread that they'd like to compete in this competition, then I'd be glad to PM them when it starts as a reminder.
I'm also looking for some people to judge the final entries. If this sounds like something you'd want to do, post in this thread and volunteer. Preferably the judges of this competition would be people that have experience making comics, or at the least count reading comics as one of their hobbies.

Oh thank God, if it was any sooner I'd be making a mess of myself.
I would be interested again. Last time I only finished one page without any dialogue yet, but I had to work that weekend, too. The entries I read were impressive.
I'm in too. February seems so far away!
Dare I come out of my hole to take part again?
Yes is the answer to that.
Count me in for some comic workification.

well if I'm not overloaded with schoolwork during that time, I'd like to give this Comic Jam a shot.

This sounds awesome! I would love to collaborate with someone on this, so if you're a writer in need of an artist for the jam pm me. We could come up with something great!
Count me as a maybe
3rd 3rd place in a row here i come!
I'll join up this time. :3 Just as a goal for myself!

I'll join, though with my lack of having a scanner I would need to team up with someone; luckily I am a good writer.

I'll participate, or something.

OKay, if we are only writing than can we start early or does the writing also have to be done in the time allotted?

Yes it has to be done in the time allotted.
But you don't even have the theme yet. How could you get started on the writing?

Ah, hell, I'll probably be busy then. I'll stick around though and let you know if I can do it.
This is my signature. It is a nice signature.
I'd like to compete! Will the theme be posted when it begins?

Actually I just caught where that was answered. I always have to read things twice.

So am I allowed to participate in this? Just wanna know in case I get in the mood for drawing again. I know I have no chance against most people here, but I can at least pull off some lame jokes and stories.

I'm still working on that sketch you sent me.
I took me 2 hours to get the shading on the hand right.
