Not really. I have the games, but I rarely play them. The main reason why is that when I move my mouse up or down, the character moves forward or backward. There doesn't seem to be a way to disable it.

Doom 1 and 2 are easily some of the best FPS games out there, despite their age.

not sure if you are referring to the physical copy, but it sounds to me like you are (i've never owned the disc). I have the DOOM2.WAD, which allows you to use freelook with mouse and basically an infinite amount of other things..

I would also give the credit to the other level packs etc. like Evilution, might not be as memorable but good extra levels with high amounts of traps on any item in the game etc. always fun.

hell grounds is my favorite "level pack". it's a pwad (not all 32 levels are replaced). only first 7, but they are absolutely beautiful and extremely detailed.

One of my favorite games of all time. I prefer Doom 1, though the super shotgun is pretty amazing.

Use a modern port and turn vertical mouse movement or lookspring off.
If you bought it off Steam, don't use the version of DosBox that Steam provides. The Steam version is outdated and shitty.

Which also points out that a good number of classics hits like Doom and Doom 2 respectfully are still one of the best, especially to those who like to play First Person Shooters even to this very day.

i play very casually, meaning not often, but when i do, i get into it.. i used to get nightmares when i played them in my earlier years xD the nostalgia that comes from them is great, i love it.

Think of it as an expansion pack.
On another note, does anyone here play the other Doom engine games? I have Heretic, Hexen, Chex Quest, Strife, HacX, and all of their respective sequels and expansions. I think that's all of the commercial Doom engine games.

I used to play Hexxen on N64 back in the day.

Ah, the greatest game ever made. :)
If anyone's looking for a good port I'd recommend Risen3D. It's based upon the old Doomsday engine, and really improves the gameplay, both graphically (with dynamic lighting, new textures, etc) and feature-wise. It lets you jump, swim, climb and add slopes to levels, to name a few things.
Oh, I play, btw.

Surprised? The game's only 19 years old! ;P

Doom 2 was one of the very first games I played, back in the mid 90s, and will always be one of my favourites. I've visited other Doom games since, but none can match that nostaligia and fear I felt playing it as a kid.
Got an urge to go and load it up now, its been a long time...

exactly! the reason I love it still is because of the bad dreams I got from it in my earlier years.

Most of the "new" monsters were just simple edits of previous ones, such as the Hell Knight had it's damage/health reduced by 50%, and some pixels changed green, that's it.

I'm starting to think that you've never even played Doom 2.

That doesn't sound right. The "new" monsters were all new monsters. The new weapons were new weapons. The new levels were new levels. The old weapons and monsters were still there, but that's pretty much it, it was an entirely new gameplay experience even if they didn't bother (more like didn't have time because the demand for more was so great) improving the graphics.
