We should ban all news media. That way the shooters get no attention, and people will stop the shootings because "waaah no one notices me."
This logic is flawless, don't try to prove otherwise.

That's still not good, because just think about that one percent you used all the way through there
one percent

Another idiot with gun. Please, America, have you had enough killings? Obama needs to be stricter with gun laws.

Shame they can't promote the use of some non-lethal ammos or something. I think it could make protests/riots more interesting (maybe less one sided) and they could just clean up in schools and use rubber bullets and beanbags for crowd control.. and shotgun *punk kids with paintball guns, off the lawn without killin' them. XD

In this survey, 4,978 people answered questions via telephone in the lower 48 states. These questions in general, were if they have used their guns in defense, and if so, what crime was being committed by the suspect, and rather they were armed or unarmed.
The results indicated that about 1% of the gun owners used it for defense, which 47.2% of the suspects were armed (18.1% knife, 13.6% handgun, 10.1% blunt object, and less than 6% with some other weapon).
So, from this survey we can conclude that:
4,978 x 1% = 49.78, which rounds up to 50 people that used their gun for defense.
257,746,103 (est. US population in 1993) / 50 = 5.1 million estimated people that used their gun for defense.
This study shows that when you exclude people who used guns in a line of work (i.e. military, police officer) the number comes down to a mere 162,000 civilians who used their guns for self-defense each year. By contrast, 436,000 violent crimes per year are done with a gun.
Conclusion?
Guns belong in the hands of trusted authorities, not untrained rednecks who don't need them. When it comes to normal citizens... mo guns, mo problems.

Luckily, if we ask nicely, everyone, especially the criminals, will be more than happy to hand over their guns without any sort of problems, for the betterment of our society.

I wonder though.
I don't like guns, I REALLY don't like guns, but members of my family all have guns and have gone through some strict training just to get their gun license and guns legally. What of them, or people like them?

Almost always, if the shit head doesn't blow his own brains out. You are aware of cops, right?
Also, most "good guys" don't get the chance, because they follow the law and don't bring their guns into gun free zones (where these shootings happen) because it's illegal.

This doesn't even make...like, any sense.
Now, how do YOU define who needs a gun. You're clearly someone who has no idea about guns, or at the very least, avoids them, so how can YOU, of all people, quantify who "needs" a gun. Are you also gonna be the judge of who "needs" a Ferrari, or a private plane, or a treehouse, or fatty foods? If not, who should be trusted to dictate what people need?

Where is that in the powers granted to the President, by the Constitution?
No, actually, I don't expect you to answer that...you're probably 12. I can't imagine any adult thinking the purpose of the President is to decide what people have or need.

* A 1994 survey conducted by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found that Americans use guns to frighten away intruders who are breaking into their homes about 498,000 times per year.
The number you're referring to is actually using the gun, not just doing something like brandishing it or that oh so lovely sound of a round being chambered from a different room.

Comparing it to the US population it may seem small, but 700,000 is still a lot of people.
Had they not have guns, that's just 700,000 more potential victims to count.

Same here, I hope they catch the second guy though. This is getting ridiculous, I wouldn't be surprised if a conspiracy theory pops up about this.
