US college alert amid 'shooting'
It is not yet clear how many have been shot or whether anyone has been taken into custody
A college in the US state of Texas is on lockdown amid reports of a shooter on the campus.
Gunfire reportedly rang out on the campus of Lone Star College in the north of Houston.
Jed Young, a spokesman for the college, said students had been warned to take shelter.
There are unconfirmed reports of people injured. News helicopter footage showed ambulances at the scene and police swarming over the campus.
Students told local broadcaster KTRK that they had heard shots near the college's cafeteria.
The government needs to take out guns.
Clearly Americans are too weak to live with the second amendment.

UPDATE : -
Looks as though there were 2 shooters, one of whom had also been shot and was in custody, while the other had fled.
Jed Young, a spokesman for Lone Star College in the north of Houston, said two students had been wounded in cross-fire.
Mr Young said that while a second suspect was sought, "the situation was under control".
A spokesman for the nearby Ben Taub General Hospital in Harris County told the BBC that two casualties had been admitted to that facility.

I don't think you can have a simplistic view like that when it comes to the complex, historical, deadly relationship Americans have with guns, a lot of people still feel that guns and freedom are synonymous.
I think what they need is stronger regulation, like what they have in New Zealand. New Zealand citizens are allowed guns, and have been named the most peaceful country in the world, and have a lower gun homicide rate than the US and even the UK. So it does show an example of where gun restrictions have been proved to work.
what if.. school shootings are the next big thing to planking...

I'm watching the news right now and there's speculation that this may have been a gang related incident gone at the wrong place. I'm just glad that there's no one dead so far.

No. No! NO! The government should search everyone's home and seize every gun. That will surely stop gun violence.

No, clearly the answer to guns is Robocop.
Quick, somebody go shoot some police officer until he can legally be deemed 'deceased' so we can rebuild him... not into the hero America needs, but the hero... we deserve.
all sarcastic coping aside
This sounds really sad, and while I'm not there, I do feel a stab of pity for the victims.

If it is then people are getting increasingly worse at it.

People say "guns are falling into the hands of crazed lunatics" but these people are going out of their way to plan this and purchase these guns. There not going crazy when they've been plotting this for usually some time.

I love how some parents say video games warp their kid's minds, but they most likely bought the fucking games for them.

"The only thing that can stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun..." - NRA

In the early 90s, Dr. Kleck of Florida State University in Tallahassee conducted a nationwide survey about gun owners using their guns for defense. In this survey, 4,978 people answered questions via telephone in the lower 48 states. These questions in general, were if they have used their guns in defense, and if so, what crime was being committed by the suspect, and rather they were armed or unarmed.
The results indicated that about 1% of the gun owners used it for defense, which 47.2% of the suspects were armed (18.1% knife, 13.6% handgun, 10.1% blunt object, and less than 6% with some other weapon).
So, from this survey we can conclude that:
4,978 x 1% = 49.78, which rounds up to 50 people that used their gun for defense.
257,746,103 (est. US population in 1993) / 50 = 5.1 million estimated people that used their gun for defense.
5.1 million x 13.6% = 701,069 estimated people that used their gun for defense against a suspect with a handgun.

So you asked, "How many times has a good guy with a gun stopped a bad guy with a gun?", the answer according to this survey could be over 700,000 times annually more or less.
Personally I want to know where security was in all of this.
And wait it was basically two guys arguing? da fuck?

We need to ban hands!
There are so many more car related deaths than guns. People need to realize this. We need to ban cars!!!!
Damn that's so sad, that we have to deal with crazy people, who would do anything, all over again.
"'I saw two dudes basically get into an altercation and the dude that shot, he basically got angry and started shooting the other guy,' Brittany Mobley said."
Well put.
also, I'm glad no one died for a change.
Did they start back today to ? Who shoots up schools on the first day back ? Holding a grudge from last semester won't do any good
Believe what thou Wilt
You keep up with that. But I'm not going to. Because I don't really care.
It wouldn't bother me if they just banned public schools and some colleges.
