Thanks for the advice, I had a bunch of people from some university from Dublin speak about how good Ireland is. Now I'll likely never travel there (for studies or otherwise) unless they can clarify this.

I've always thought of Ireland as being England's retarded cousin. Guess I'm right.

I've heard of the problems with Catholic influence and it sounds pretty shitty.

Also, I heard that the majority of people born in Ireland currently don't live in Ireland. That seems to be a pretty good hint right there.

I went to Ireland to spend my Christmas Birthday there last year, my verdict of it is 50/50.

The ferry crossing is awesome only for the huge waves that splash over the front of the ferry, but mostly you'll want to fall asleep asthe trip is long. Then its roughly an hour to get to my Mum's place, she recently moved to Ireland. Lovely place, but miles from literally anywhere: hospital, town centres, beach, fast food shit... she can just about get a taxi to/from her place and the local village to do some shopping.

Her place though is awesome. Except no internet, so bringing a console or handheld helps a lot.

WORD OF WARNING IF YOU'RE AN ORANGE USER, DO NOT MAKE INTERNATIONAL CALLS, TEXTS OR EVEN USE THE NET ON YOUR PHONE UNLESS YOU HAVE TO. That shit is expensive, its like 20ish pence to make a call, nearly 10p to text, half a pound to send a photo message and £8/MB... yes, I said MB.

So if you're gonna stay in Ireland for a week, bring entertainment, you're mostly gonna need it.

Other than that, if you can make it to the beach, its a lovely view, also there's other places to take a nice walk...

I heard they have plenty of beer and pubs. That's a good enough reason for me.

Planning to visit Ireland and England in near future. What attract me is all those historical places and the cultures. Well, that's it. I asked 3 different people and they all scared me with similar stuff to yours, including England.

Too late.

Expect some spaniards in Dublin by the end of March.

I have family who live in Ireland and Northern Ireland. I came one summer to visit them. I was surprised at how poor they were, and how much they didn't seem to care.

My cousin, called Dawn, is 30 and has three children, with the fourth on the way. She doesn't have a partner. She refuses to work, and just as I was about to leave her for home, I heard she received a letter in the mail, which was a summons. There was a case against her regarding her stealing cable TV and not paying a TV license.

Within a hundred yards of the home was the home of a Red Hand Commando, a paramilitary officer of high rank, with murals covering the whole house, including the front. There were children playing in front of it.

Ireland, especially Northern Ireland is a very bizarre place.

I'm Irish and I've lived in Ireland all my life. It's what you make of it really. You find shit people all over the place but that doesn't mean Ireland is shit. Maybe go somewhere that isn't Dublin for once?

My name was chosen as it was in a song on a Guinness Drinking Songs pamphlet. So there you go.

Actually, I just realized that I should probably be slightly more annoyed about this. Not only are you insulting my country, but you're doing absolutely nothing to help.. If we have a shit economy, how the hell is decreased tourism going to improve it? Douchebag.
