I got the PM too so it's probably all the users on the Audio Forum who've submitted something recently.

Certainly not in the age of Facebook and Youtube anyway
I was there, but THIS HERO OF MINE (GEOPLEX) showed me this thread and I deleted my account there after reading thru this. NEWGROUNDS FOREVER!

In all honesty, Sorohanro would've stopped me from going on that site if I was on there, but he'd yell like, WHY IN THE LIVING DAYLIGHT DID YOU GO ON THAT SITE WHEN YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO BE A LAW STUDENT?!
...yeah. I don't know, it's just... if several musicians with not the best background in law can tell that a site is shady just from the way it runs, then surely there's weight in whatever they say.
I cannot say much for my part, but I suppose it boils back down to what we're looking for: just any plain funds when making music, or effective funds.
Who summoned my name?
Ah, you... aha... well, DON'T UPLOAD YOUR MUSIC THERE!

You know I was being facetious.
At any rate, that post of mine was a serious 'D'OH!' to people who had indeed put their stuff up there.
just got a message from this guy on this name http://danielburg.newgrounds.com/ and i just uploaded my first song, guys getting desperate

Same. First track, instantly.
I wonder if it's not a bot.
I don't think its a bot. I sent the dude a message regarding the proposed contest details, and he sent me one back. The reply seemed pretty personable so probably not. Anyway..is this thing a scam, anybody know? I checked out the site it seemed legit but i don't know if i'm gonna upload or not.

Read the OP. When you sign up and upload music, you loose the rights to your music.

Well assuming there is no legal trickery. But yes, that is how it looks.
Important!
This is STILL going on, I was contacted recently by ANOTHER user, username "AliciaDobbs".
I think that it might be necessary to either ban the IP connected to those users from creating new accounts, or possibly add a code that prevents "freeing" music to be included in a PM? This is probably too much work, but at least we are all aware of it now.
The site isn't clean at all.. I read through it, someone was impersonating Skrillex. Overall.. ridiculous.
If you are interested in getting signed, look for a local label. They are cool to work with and you will be able to get your music heard locally, have the option to branch out later. All musicians/people in general should get familiar with the blacks law dictionary.
Check it! :) //// Never stop making music. Metal?
Got the same message from the same "Alicia Dobbs", and also saw that Skrillex imposter message.
Looks like the highest voted video/song is rated at 30 something votes. Even if this weren't a scam benefit site, it's hardly worth the time, serious musician or not.
Steering clear of this.
There is a Block button, people. Use it.

This thread is useful however.
Not everyone who gets this PM instantly recognizes this as spam and might want to look into it.
It's nice to get a warning.
Also, i got the PM too. And it wasn't a bot, since i asked a question and got a reply.
Asked another question after that, but didn't get a reply to that, unfortunately.
Don't you have everything you want?
Clicking my sig takes you to my latest song. You.. you should click it. I'd like that. And maybe you'd like it, too.
"Not everyone who gets this PM instantly recognizes this as spam and might want to look into it. It's nice to get a warning."
Exactly this. Not only that, but it loosely documents the amount of people that have received this, might provide helpful insight into who & what to look out for in the future.
Just saw this thread. Went over to FM and deleted the one song I posted there as well as my account. Nice catch.
Whelp, here's my signature.
Phew, thankfully, it's over now.
Thanks.

I just received this message from http://rachelrox.newgrounds.com/. I wonder if this guy legally changes his name every time he makes a new account to spam with, surely he can't be lying about even that...

Yes, he/she's still at it; I got a PM as well. Twice. Here was my original response:
"Thank you for taking the time to contact me. My short answer is: no, thank you. I'm not convinced that ad revenue from a site with as small an amount of daily traffic as FreeingMusic (see http://www.alexa.com/siteinfo/freeingmusic.com) would be significantly profitable for me or you. Furthermore, messaging people on Newgrounds in this fashion strikes me as a somewhat spammy way of attracting attention for your community-in-progress. I wish you success with your website."
lol looks like the Nigerian romance scammers are having a go at it today too :P

I take it you never signed up for Uplaya previously? If so, what a bunch of spammers...
I got that email too, Luckily I didn't fall for it but good to know for sure that it definitely is spam :) I'll keep my eye out for similar ones like it in future...
Yep, got the message from this person http://julialee.newgrounds.com/ ...checked out the site, but something didn't sit right with me...glad I didn't post anything. Thanks for the heads up, and for just having this thread.
