I'm surprised there hasn't been a thread on this.

The story goes like this:
American football (rugby) player Manti T'eo claimed that his girlfriend died from cancer just before his football game, and said he wanted to "dedicate the game to her". I don't really keep up on football, but many agree he performed very well during the game. Days later, after entire charities were being opened to sponsor his girlfriend and her family's loss, the girl was revealed to be fake, with records of her life or death found anywhere. This has stirred up some confusion, and many wonder what the hell just happened.
