You know bleeps and bloops and four-to-the-floor kick patterns at 90-180 BPM played over a melody based around a chord progression for approximately 3-5 minutes? NOT IN THIS FUCKING NEIGHBOURHOOD YOU DON'T YOU PISSING WHORE

IDM stands for intelligent dance music, which is a wanky pretentious way of saying electronic music that doesn't follow a pattern. Unless "fucking insane" is a pattern. It's all snare rolls and funny beepy noises and creepy voices and ambience, ranging from subtle ambient shit for playing Minecraft, to crazy feedbacky KRRZZSSYUYUUUUWUOOOOFFFPPHH shit that gets all in your brain, and that's why Richard D. James who is the best person ever used the alternate term "braindance". He hates the term "intelligent dance music" and so should you. It's not intelligent, you can't dance to it, but it's music. THE BEST MUSIC.

Examples include Venetian Snares, The Flashbulb (personal favourite), Aphex Twin, Squarepusher and some other blokes. Discuss IDM and how lush everything is. Fuck.

Ah, ok. I only really skimmed it. I honestly don't really know what you would classify IDM. Baths? Slugabed? Lovely Bloodflow strikes me as pretty experimental. None of my tracks are repetitious but that's mainly opinion anyway. Check me last.fm and you tell me. I'm checking out Venetian Snares now. Seriously, tell me some people I should check out.
