I have been into metal all my life. So when it comes to Ambient drone music, the most likely choice is going to be either Sunn O))) or Ulver. They are both extremely great artists, and perform some fantastic ambient drone metal, if any of you are into that type of Ambient music, than they are definetly worth checking out if you haven't done so already.

Funny, when I just clicked on this thread, I was thinking exactly Satie's music-- a precursor for minimalism as well. He called some of it furniture music.

Well I can recommend some works by Keith Kenniff. Even though a lot of it gets ruined for me because I hear the stuff kind of like second smoke since he does work for commercials. His Goldmund and ambient works is what I enjoy most from him:

Also, I’m pretty sure that most people here have heard the Jurassic Park Theme slowed down, but if not, it’s worth sharing:

Gymnopédie No. 1 is probably my favorite piano piece ever. It's simplistic, but so moving. Unfortunately, I can't seem to find any ambient piano compositions of the same caliber.

Yes, Furniture Music, good stuff, no?

Gary Numan turns in a touching rendition of it :)

Have you ever listened to Harold Budd? Not exactly the same as Satie, but very calming ambient piano music

Harold Budd is fantastic!

The White Arcades, I feel, is some of his best.

You'll know this piece of music. It is supposed to evoke the Moon, specifically. It is just so mesmerising:

Is Brian Eno's stuff the best place to start with ambient? I realised a few days ago that I only have a few albums in my library that could be considered ambient, so I'm looking to expand my taste.

I'd say so. You could start with any of his "Ambient" labeled albums (Music for Airports is REALLY good, IMO), because they're very much hallmarks of ambient music. But anything Eno is pretty good.

If it helps you any, I got into ambient music after falling in love with Eno's Another Green World. You could start there, but it's not as ambient as some of his other albums.

I'm kinda disappointed. I went through the 3 pages of the club and no one mentioned Aphex Twin. I've been listening to Aphex constantly lately. Here is a good track of his to start with.

After going through my collection I noticed that most of my ambient music is dark and gloomy, and that sorta bothers me.

What's some good ambient in a major key? I need some more uplifting ambient stuff in my libary.

Alright, I want to know if anyone can identify with me. When I hear this song, my chest has, like, a weight or something. It's like my chest feels heavier, and my breathing gets heavier. The song makes me feel kinda sad, but I keep wanting to hear it. There are only a few songs that do that to me.

For anyone that hasn't already heard it, you should check out A Winged Victory For The Sullen. It's a collab between Adam Wiltzie from Stars of the Lid and Dustin O'Halloran. Good stuff.

Ambience is something I enjoy listening to, as well as creating once in a while. I intend to give a listen to all that's listed. Just finished listening to Phillip Wilkerson's tracks. Really nice, pretty sounds!

Here are two I'd like to share;

This is a creation by a NG buddy of mine, abrasounds: https://soundcloud.com/skyscapes/broken-music-box?in=skyscapes/sets/we-fly-as-leaves

The other is my latest, something creepy and dark.
