You must have never been on the spriter's resource community. The main site is fine, but the forums are terrible.
It's very small and exclusive, full of elitist pricks. If you want to learn how to sprite, you should go on Pixeljoint.

I haven't been to the forum much, so I haven't really noticed anything special about it. The way it's organized is fine at least.

Ditto about what somebody else said about DeviantART. Even though I am currently still a member. I've gotten stalked/harassed over some of the dumbest stuff... "You don't draw your dragons the way I do! My way is perfect! YOU MUST DIE!!!" Just... what? Really? Is it honestly worth stalking me for eight months just for that? Can these people really not think of any better way to waste their time?

Maybe it would be better if the site were a bit smaller and the moderation staff more sensible; I don't even want to try talking to them about any problems I might have because of the stupid crap they've pulled in the past. Like when they penalized Brett Booth because some creep blamed him for stealing their artwork, which obviously didn't happen... he ended up leaving DA over it. If a successful, published comic artist who works on stuff like Anita Blake and Marvel gets that kind of treatment, it doesn't give me high hopes.

The only other communities I've had trouble with are dead now, or the people responsible for making it that way "disappeared", so I can't really complain. Wow, that sounded more sinister than it was supposed to.

though i do think it's wrong to say that all of 4chan is bad, some of their boards really aren't that bad, while others, like /r9k/ and /pol/ for instance, are pretty downright terrible.

Youtube has one of the worst as does. Halo used to have a shitty one but I haven't been on the official message boards for years so I don't know what it's like now days.

The worst I have seen is a site called Above Top Secret. Its supposed to be a site where you can post and comment on all manner of strange and unexplained phenomena and conspiracy theories but everyone on there is an "expert" and won't accept a single shred of logic to explain anything, its always aliens from such and such star system that the community members know oh so much about like they holiday there every year or a government cover up run by the CIA or the Illuminati or reptilian shape-shifters. You can't have a serious debate on that site, if you try to inject sense or explanation you are flamed to high heaven.

Also, from my brief time on the Cracked forums I learned that those guys can be really harsh on the newbies. And everyone, really. I still go there for articles and shit, and the comments on those articles are great too, surprisingly, but I'm keeping away from the community.

As for Youtube, eh, it's a coin toss, really. I've seen some pretty witty comments and some innocuous ones, but go on any popular video's comments section and it's a minefield.

I used to go on a site called Dreamviews a while ago, it's for lucid dreaming. It has a really annoying community, very inactive, which makes it hard to get a high post count without spamming. If you don't have a high post count (800-100+) then you will be flat-out ignored most of the time in the off topic boards, and "famous" members get their dicks sucked so hard. Also the moderators there are barbarians, they're really strict. If you think NG moderators are bad (they're not so bad now, I remember them being worse) the Dreamviews ones are even worse.

It's already been mentioned, but fucking Tumblr. The social justice morons especially. They're overtly defensive towards every minority ever and hates anyone who isn't in one. For example, if you're straight and okay with your physical sex, you're automatically a bigoted douche according to Tumblr. I don't know what about the site attracts these kinds of morons, but it does.

And don't even get me started on the fandoms. Holy shit, the fandoms. I hope you aren't following any Doctor Who/Homestuck/Sonic/Whatever fangirls. Because if you are, prepare to see nothing but slash-shipping and overreacting over anything that even remotely implies a romantic relationship between two characters (usually if they're guys).

I can't say I hate the site, but good God there's so much about the community that pisses me off. It's hard not to get mad at the idiocy that plagues it.

I've actually had the opposite experience with DeviantArt. It's the only site where I've actually gotten a response from the mods. I've only met two trolls on it and I got them both banned in a day. There is also very few assholes compared to most communities, and the weirdos are weird is a good way (at least from my experience, I haven't really encountered any of the infamous emo kids). If there is any problem I have with deviant art it's that the community is too nice. That's just my experience.

The worst community is definitely youtube, and I've done nothing to help. I've posted offensive comments on songs I hate to stir up the pot, and I've gotten in reply chains that are hundreds of comments long.
