Cool flashlight. :) 2012-12-26 15:22:59 Reply

Got one of these for Christmas. It uses a Cree XM-L U2 LED. It has various levels of output, the highest putting out 860 lumens! That's impressive for a small flashlight with a single LED. Also it has a good sized reflector for a compact flashlight, so it can focus and throw that light a long way. Another cool feature is it uses 4 AA batteries, so it's easy to find batteries for it. I use rechargeable NiMH batteries, Sany Eneloops to be exact since they are a good quality rechargeable AA.

This flashlight has a low, medium-low, medium, high, and turbo as far as outputs, then it also has strobe, SOS, and beacon.

If anyone is interested, you can get them here:

https://illuminationsupply.com/nitecore-ea4-p-271.html

It's great for a search light, like if you like to hunt, spot deer, etc. Low mode, which isn't that low at 65 lumens, will run for around 22 hours. So it would be good during a power outage where you need a fair amount of light for an extended period of time.

It's cool how far along these LED flashlights have come these past few years. :)

Cool flashlight. :)

1) Round the edges (or not if you're into that pain shit).
2) Lube that sumbitch up (again; optional if that's your thing).
3) Insert into any available orifice.
4) Human Jack-O-Lantern!
5) Place various other lights of various colors in you and connect to a light-show circuit so you can be like one of those sweet Christmas light houses (obviously the best music for such a show would be Gangnam Style).
6) Give 10% royalties to me for the amazing idea.

I hope some of you find yourselves in a black out, with no light, cold, and alone, with no way to light your way to safety. :P

My dad's obsessed with finding the most efficient wind-up torch, so we'll be fine. We also have two wood burners for warmth.

I got my dad a new LED flashlight for Christmas. He'd been using the same old school styled ones from the 80s.

Pretty similar to this one

It works pretty well, we powered it up last night.

I am looking for some waterproof LED flashlight. The one I had got soaked wet when I accidentally dropped it in water bucket during blackout... a total piss.

LED flashlights own. I have one that can be seen from 350 meters away when it's focused. Take that outside on any night around here, point it up, and you're a goddamn Jedi.

I have the older Fenix T1 and TK10, they are around 200 lumens max with the Cree XR-E LED. The TK21 uses the newer XM-L LED, which is the same LED in the flashlight I posted here, just not driven as hard. The Fenix TK series are tough lights. :)

I kind of wish the Nitecore EA4 had a sub 10 lumen mode, like the 5 lumen mode the TK21 has. That's great for finding your way around at night if you get up out of bed and don't want to blind yourself and others with your flashlight.

I've been trying to find a good one of those too... seem to be a rare thing in these parts (have't really looked online). I did find one really cheap, hardly any light all, crappy one... but I want to be able to leave it in my car and not worry about batteries being dead when I need it. Got any suggestions, Wade?!

I have an app on my iPod Touch to use the camera flash as a flashlight. That's my flashlight.

I'm not into those wind up torches. Many of them use small rechargeable batteries that can go bad eventually. Unless someone makes them with some kind of capacitor that never goes bad.

I would recommend a AA flashlight and load it with Energizer lithium AA batteries. They cost a bit more than alkaline batteries, but they shouldn't leak, they perform good in the cold (alkaline batteries don't), and they should store their power for a long time. Just change them every 5 years or so if you don't ever run them down.

The LED flash on the iPhone makes a decent flashlight. It will be much brighter than the screen. I would only worry about it over heating if you use an app that runs it at full power for a long period of time. I would only use it briefly. It's also all flood, it won't throw the light very far, like if you wanted to light up something across your yard, etc. It's great for close up tasks though.
