Well my goal really was to learn how to draw something more complex, so I did some more based on humanoid shapes, posting it hoping for some sort of criticism, and then yes. Sorry for the links, but technicly its on this site and the site only permits 1 included image.

Any help for someone trying to learn to draw people-like creatures?

yes. look at people and draw them. thats literally all you have to do. draw them everyday, dont just mindlessly put down lines on paper though, the point is the understand the structure of what you are drawing. draw internal and external structure in a convincing way using depth, light and shadow, color. whatever you want. learn to observe and stop using symbolism and assumptions to draw things.

I admit I did do that referencing thing for one image....

Looking back and forth at a image of myself about 3000 times, when I tried to quick draw for a contest (I didn't make it in time, I started late.)

But really in the end it still never looked all that much greater then without and I felt a bit like I was cheating.

Hm, It might be wise if I had tried out the hundreds of "tutorials" all over the internet on drawing people.
