So many people on Reddit complaining about the Steam sales being rubbish this time. I don't get it - what's different?

My guess is people expect giant discounts on every game, especially newer releases. So when a game only gets say like 25% off they thing they're getting ripped off.

I got Terraria a week ago and I just bought Vice City. That along with Skyrim and Half Life Ep 1 and 2 should be more than enough to keep me occupied until the summer.

I've actually already played Vice City once, but I lost the CD long ago and just felt like playing it again. It's one of my favourite games and I figured paying another 2.50 euros for it isn't that bad.

We still got about a week to go, don't we? Perhaps they're saving the best deals for last.

Why should companies agree to put their game on sale through steam when people are still willing to pay full price for it?

Because more people are willing to buy it at a discount.

I've mostly had emails about Call of Duty games on sale. I only had them on there just to attempt to win them from previous sales and to avoid giving Activision any of my money. Thankfully it's only something insignificant like that so I'm not tempted in the slightest. However, I will say email notifications for games on users' wishlists on sale is a good idea from them so I applaud them for that.

It is marketing gold when you think about. It's not too intrusive and plants the seed of temptation in your mind. In this case it worked with me, I cracked and picked up FTL. Man that game is tricky yet addictive.

As a matter of fact, I really like it because it's not just generic email offers where you won't want to read most of the crap they try to throw at you. It's something you're likely to want since you put it on your wishlist stating you want this game.

I stopped receiving Amazon offers because of that, even if something good did come up.

Money well spent. The narrator is amazing. I started playing Dota 2 just because the Baastion narrator is available in that game.

Dota 2 just became free to play.

Which makes me not understand why it got put on community sale.

It's never been free. It was most likely a free invite you got. Since you can either buy an invite from valve, or hope you're lucky enough to get one for free.

I was referring to the narrator item in the game.

And Dota 2 isn't free to play yet. It'll become free to play once it's out of beta.

Heroes of Might and Magic V and the expansions was very cheap a day or so ago, probably should have pointed them out as being well worth the money but alas I didn't.

I hope you wont regret buying Ace of Spades.
It was a big let down for me, even after I tried a free version of a previous build.

I just played one long round and it was OK. I wasn't expecting it to be good, but it seemed very popular and I didn't mind paying $5 for it... even if I did actually spend $15 on a 4-pack. I doubt I'll play it much compared to Torchlight II and Civ 5, but it was worth trying and I'll go back to it at some point.

Torchlight 2 is a great game. I was one of the few who played the first one before the second one and was excited for this game for months. They did an amazing job. It's also pretty hard. I play on one above normal and get my asskicked all the time.

We are both survivors. However, maybe next time I'll get a little something but I ought to watch my money. Holding back for the last two holiday sales has at least let my money live.

It was alright but I wish they didn't keep putting the same things as daily deals- Borderlands 2 goes on sale a million times yet Mafia II didn't get reduced at all. Ah well, should be grateful for the sale anyway - it's not like Steam HAD to put loads of things as 75% off.

Whats even more clever is you still have to pay for some in game items with real money and alot of the time your rewards are crates which you need to pay for to open!
By the way heres the narrator pack. A full 27 minutes of announcement audio. Nice.

I got:
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
Terraria
Botanicula
GTA Vice City
GTA III

during this sale. Spent about 40 euros in total which isn't bad.

Every Steam sale is pretty damn generous in my eyes.

Here are all my purchases:

Ace of Spades = $4.99 (+$9.99 for 4-pack)
Half-Minute Hero = $2.49
Hotline Miami = $4.99 (+$4.99 for gift)
Retro City Rampage = $7.49
Civilization V = $7.49
Torchlight II = $9.99

So in total I sent about $53. I'm OK with this.
