They don't necessarily have to be of high quality or anything, I just want to play around with them as building blocks so I can do shitty sound design

I just google search, but on christmas I'm getting a mic that I can hopefully try to do field recording with, and create sound FX. It always looked like a lot of fun watching professionals do it.

Sup Buoy? Here's some from my list of favourites
Sound Bible - http://soundbible.com/
Mostly for cool effects like elephant, rain and chainsaw as you said. This one kicks asses
Free Sound - http://www.freesound.org/
You already mentioned it.
Sound Jay - http://www.soundjay.com/
Nice samples, what else I can say. Oh cool name too, lol.
Oh, and of course as the guy above me said (don't remember the name sorry, and my internet is shit today) just do a research on Google, if you're lucky you can come up with cool things.
I need the drum and the bass
and the girls in the place!
I tend to use freesound and sometimes sampleswap
Audio Micro has some fantastic sounds, but damn they are expensive. A 10 second sound costs more than a single on iTunes!
If you were working on a serious project, I'd recommend that website, as most sounds are quality and genuine. For mucking around though, probs not worth the money.

oh my god. i am laughing my ass off at these seal sounds. hahahahahahhaha
This guy seems to have compiled a pretty nicely sized list of free sample resources.
When i need sfx, i usually go to freesound. But finding the right sound there can be a pain.
