Critique request for Landscapes 2012-12-12 02:49:12 Reply

Hello, maytees! I heard this place is GREAT in terms of "tearing people a new one" in terms of critique, so I would like to see if I can get in on that action. :) I've been struggling in terms of painting landscape related materials, or just painting techniques in general.

What I will be posting is what I feel are my best landscape related works from the past year(which are not many, unfortunately), and I would like to see if you guys could offer me some pointers on how to do better. Or at the very least, be able to point me in the right direction for existing guides. :) I haven't had too much progress from dA tutorials or youtube guides that I have tried so far.

All the links I will give will be from oldest to most recent respectively going from top to bottom:

I'm mainly looking for critique on landscapes and such in what I posted for examples of what I can do, but since other elements are in some of these photos as well, those are free game of course if some of you want to critique them as well. :)

My art has grown from critique in the past, so I understand somewhat how that process goes in terms of honesty.

Thanks again to whoever decides to take a look at my work! Any kind of help or comments is very much appreciated. :)

oopsie, you might want to read the rules, specifically:

- Please upload your art directly IN THE FORUM; pictures are more pleasing to look at than links to other websites! You are welcome to link to another site to view a hi-res version of your picture, but please include a smaller version of the image that fits within our guidelines. Use Dumping Grounds if you need it!

One pic per post, btw.
Thanks ;)

Sorry about that, I managed to miss that somehow. I gave the forum wiki rules a second read-through, so now I know what the guidelines are clearly this time.

Thanks, Kitsuke. :)

It's dependent on the tools you would use for w/e digital program you use. Personally, I have Paint Tool SAI. I favor the Brush and Watercolor tools the most for painting.

As for the actual blending, it's a combination of fairly low opacity brushes and tedious layering of colors. The watercolor related tools help me give a blurred type of result to help blend blocks of colors as well.

Also starting to paint from the background all the way to the foreground helps. It's all about order of procedure, really. And of course, simply practice.
