Time to ask a highly reputable site with years of social experience (who am I kidding, i'm lying out of my ass) for help. There is this girl that I have been texting for say a month now, but I have never called her before. I know that I can't maintain a relationship or a friendship by text alone, so I'm deciding if I should make the drastic move of actually calling her via phone.

Would it make a better impression on her if I called her out of the blue for the first time, after purely texting her for a month and nothing more?

Ask her first through text. I've had people that I don't know too well call me without asking and it ALWAYS makes me mad. I'm sure this isn't the case for you, but I think you should play it safe and ask first. It will probably be awkward and weird and she'll never talk to you again, but yea, ask first anyways :)

The mere thought of texting her just to ask if I can call her sounds weird as hell. Maybe I just don't understand where you're going at.

In my opinion it'd be smarter to say.. hey can I call you? Instead of randomly calling when maybe she doesn't want to talk on the phone

It wouldn't be bad to ask her out through texts. Maybe after the date, you can open up more and mention if she would like to talk on the 'phone with you.
