Starting off with this little drawing I did in pen. It will be interesting to see how this one evolves into a final piece. At the moment it appears to be some type of clown guy getting ready for a meal of rat. Mmmmm...
Critique is appreciated.
Njce line art! really hoping to see some colred pieces soon!
Thanks. I'm definitely going to colour this guy in.
Just finished the line art. I decided to change his hat, 'cause it looks better.
I really struggle with choosing colours, so we'll see how it comes out.
Coloured him in a bit. I have no idea what to put in the background yet.
Looks too cartoon-y for my liking. I'll work on it more later on.

The colour choices themselves are fine, but you have to watch the shading.
Right now, you don't have a defined light source and have just applied shading wherever you feel like it.
Since you're doing cel-shading, here's a tutorial on that.

Looking nice! just one thing...whered the rat go?
Thanks, big-jonny. I'll check that tutorial out right now.

I decided the rat did not look so good in the initial sketch. I'll draw it in later in a different position.
Anyway, I did a bit more work (on his face mostly). I guess I'll have to edit the lighting completely after reading that tutorial.
Thank you. I will keep posting.
And here's where the rat went, I had to chop it's head off first.
I got tired of looking at that skinny neck so I made it bigger and gave his shirt a collar.
Also I focused on lighting this time, paying attention to his face and the plate.
Things to do: redo the hair, shirt, knife and fork, work on the rat head, and maybe add something else to the picture.

its coming along real nicely! keep it up! that rat look yummy jeje
Yep, it's about to get yummier.
Changes from last: changed body shape (made it more human), gave him frizzy-ish hair, gave texture to table, improved rat head, and made some minor tweaks here and there.

Possibly give him ears and/or turn rat head into a delicious rat head cupcake (I plan on sticking a candle or something in its mouth).

coming along real nice! lots of improvement in each update!
also maybe think about a different background color or maybe even some sort of texture, doesnt have to be actual drawing but maybe some blood or paint splatters
I'm playing around with the background, as you can see. I'm not happy with it atm, but I have some ideas...
Still some things to do on this piece: redo knife and fork, possibly give him ears, improve rat/meal, make a decent background and improve lighting. I suppose knife and fork should be the next thing I do.
This is still far from finished.
Actually, black/dark-grey background is a terrible colour choice. I just tried using blue, and it looks a lot nicer. It gives a primary colour theme going on. Still, I probably will use a different background later on.
The blue is better. Perhaps you should create a more interesting pattern. Also you may want to zoom in a little bit and/or offset the character to the right. I would tighten up the composition in my opinion. I like it so far :)

Thanks for the feedback, I agree completely.
I'll try to find time tomorrow to work on it some more.
So I moved things around a little bit; made clowny bigger and shifted his plate.
I changed his hat too, making it look less flat than it already was.
Because I moved things around I had to shift the facial features a little bit to compensate the new perspective.
Also, I found that when I flipped the image vertically, it revealed the imbalances of his body (like his jaw was sticking out too much on one side) that otherwise looked just fine before. So that's a nice little trick. :)
I felt like trying my hand at pixel art. Meet Pixel Piggeh! (4-clours)
I like that clown. He's so clean and crisp. The hat kind of looks too shiny now, and I liked the blue background although the white looks good too. Maybe if it was really light and almost white, it might look better?

This is cool! Id like to see it used in some retro style game!

Thanks. Me too!

Thanks for the comment. In response I made hat less shiny, and changed the background colour to a pale grey.
I'm ready to portal this now. I know I didn't do some of the things I wanted, but they turned out not looking so great in the end, eg. ears humanised him way too much and didn't match his simple nose.
Created in Adobe Illustrator CS4.
Great work with the clown, it turned out pretty great.
Thats one nifty looking clown! Good Work!
I REALLY love seeing the progress here, it gives us artists some sort of perspective on your technique! Great stuff
I've been busy the last few days but I'm back to start another.
My next piece will be a seascape. Below is the initial sketch of how I want it to look.
Started working on the lighthouse. Still more work to do on it though.
I'm feeling more in a daytime mood for this piece; that's why I put a lighter sky behind the lighthouse.

Looking very promising! I honestly prefer the night time, as you can see the light from the light house, but if youre fixed on doing a daytime piece, I would suggest adding more activity on the sea, maybe a boat or such.
Sure, I'll put a boat in there later :)
Busy, busy, busy lately.
Here's an update: Fixed lighthouse, and I was thinking about making the sky completely purple.
