true but I'm operating under the assumption that this guy knows nothing and while there are things that need
to be addressed it will give him a sort of jumping in point. Crawl before you walk and all that.

Besides if he goes to far astray I'm sure you'll be quick to correct him ;)

Meh, admittedly that's how I made my first two AS3 games, but with my second game Flash reached compile times up to a whole 10 minutes, that's when I realized I had to make a change.

It's not a huge deal, but you'd be missing out on some things like FD debugging and fcsh sequential compiles to speed up compile times. It also promotes a few bad habits in beginners such as relying on the Flash's vector graphics.
