You drink the broth, and eat whatever else is in the soup, whether it be vegetables or whatever

We say "eat" because soup nourishes us rather than quenching out thirst.
Depends on the soup. Most of it has food in it. You eat that then drink the soup.

You eat the stuff inside it (if there is any), you drink the liquid. So both.
Soup isn't a single thing if there is more than just a certain liquid in it.

Stupid question. Either gets the point across. There are subtle semantic differences such that one may make more sense in one context and the other may make more sense in another context.

Hmm. I'm going to go with drink. To me, eating requires some involvement from the teeth. I don't chew nor bite soup so for that reason, I'm going to have to say you drink soup. Oh yea, and I liquidise all my soup, so there'd be no chunky bits for me to chew.
Nothing like some home made lentil soup in the winter!

My version of "soup" is just a t-bone steak with gravy on it. That's enough liquid on my meat for me. I eat it.
