Gender Identity Disorder is a disorder. If your gender in your head is different than your biological sex, it's hard to argue that that's anything other than a disorder. I think the people who get upset over it being called as such are actually just prejudiced against people with mental disorders. Labeling something a disorder doesn't necessarily mean that you're discriminating against them just like it's not discrimination to claim that someone has clinical depression.
GID also seems to be getting lumped in with homosexuality here even though they're two completely unrelated things. The only thing they share in common is that the two groups are both stigmatized minorities, and that's it. Yet people seems to be using the fact that homosexuality is no longer considered a mental disorder as evidence that GID should be treated the same way. Homosexuality is a part of normal sexuality. You can't argue that transsexuality is a part of normal gender identity because trans people never actually feel comfortable until they've changed their physical body to match that of their gender identity.

Which most of them do. All of the trans people I know will report that being in a pre-op body is distressing. They wouldn't want to change in the first place if they were happy as they were.
It's nice that Democrats only worship scientists when it comes to popular views on climate change. It's good for them to see the other side of things once in a while.
