Justin Bieber, Adele, Beyonce, Bruno Mars, Eminem, Nicki Minaj, One Direction, Gangnam Style, Honey Boo Boo, Taylor Swift, Queen (thank god!), Rihanna, Skrillex, and Usher.
Something is wrong here. And as easy as it would be for me to get all judgmental and say everybody's taste in music is terrible, I have to say I'm more sad than I am annoyed or angry.
People consistently choose music that is shallow both lyrically and musically; rarely do we see interesting interpretations of love songs (ex. Dead Girls by Voltaire), deep or serious lyrical themes (ex. Even Shadows Have Shadows by Eyedea & Abilities), or music with unusual time signatures (ex. Poland by Planet X) or unique styles (ex. Metsatoll).
People consistently prefer repetitive, attention-seeking, in-your-face humor (ex. Shane Dawson) to something thought-provoking or creative (ex. George Carlin).
As a longtime fan of bad taste, I could see myself watching or listening to trashy stuff sometimes. At my lowest, I listen to Dope, Limp Bizkit, and Slipknot. But I could never consider such generic music to be among my favorite bands. And I cannot understand how such generic stuff climbs its way to such an immense level of popularity. How does this even happen?

I'm okay with Eminem and Queen, but I fucking lost it at Honey Boo Boo.

because taste doesn't matter and you aren't as 'individualistic' as you think
Popular taste isnt like the taste of everyone, most people dont care for most interests, even the more popular ones like music. Id have to say that a lot of people dont even try to find the good stuff and just take whatevers in their face even if its complete shit. And then there are people who just have the worst taste ever, who like Skrillex and Nicki and Bieber.
I've learned to stop caring.
But every once in a while I snap.
A lot of people have pictures for their signatures. But that's stupid. I'm not going to do that. That is so 2008. Not even kidding. Jeez, you guys are stoopid.

Bingo.
Good work, Sekhem, take five. Go play chess with a hooker or something.
It has never mattered what your favourite colour is, whether you're a Mac or PC, or what brand tee shirts you prefer. Connoisseurs are collectively delusional assholes who specialize in getting upset over fucking differences in opinion when they come across anyone who doesn't give a shit about their particular brand of enjoyment.
It's a waste of time, people. Get over it.
Who cares?
I agree that popular music is often generic, bland and repetitive.. but apparently people like that.
And what does it matter? Why get mad at someone's taste? Or do you just like to feel better than other people, thinking your taste is superior and looking down on all the people who just listen to whatever is on the radio.
As long as you can listen to music that you like, what does it matter that other people listen to stuff that you think is shit?
