Future historical inaccuracies Nov. 17th, 2012 @ 12:14 AM Reply

What are the chances that in the distant future, the archaeologist will unearth some old transcripts of a show or movie and thinks it's a historical record?

For example, "Char's Counterattack" being taught as a historical event in classes because they thought that it actually happened in the distant past. They'll probably rationalize the existance of giant fighting robots by saying that the technology downgraded or something (how the pyramids are built?).

If something like that happens, what show do you think will be mistaken as a historical event?

Seems pretty unlikely since our archaeologists now are smart enough not to base a belief in an event solely on one piece of literature. Unless science deteriorates in the future it's not happening.

One can never be sure, keep in mind sometimes they might find some pieces and make assumptions based on what they found.

If not, then they'll likely think of it as something taught at the mythology class.

That's right, it depends on whether if certain things can stand the test of time as well.

Yes. In 1,000 years future archaeologists will dig up relics of days long gone. They will find this status in thousands of locations and believe him to be a male deity we worshiped.

They may be right

I would have prefer Colonel Sanders, the god of chickens.

Maybe they'll believe that "Popeye's" and other similar franchises will be mistaken as opposing religious factions and that there was a war went on which involves things like suicide bombing and what not.

In the far future, Micheal Jackson will be remembered as a famous White musician and all the traces of his blackness will be forgotten, or covered up.

It's true because that's what the Illuminati planned from the start

These "what would happen if people in the future found _____ and thought it's real" jokes are fucking retarded. People are getting progressively stupider, but that doesn't mean that they will believe things like Cloverfield actually happened.

The sad part is that if civilization is lost and our writing goes undeciphered in the future this probably will happen. A lot of corporate mascots, mostly anthropomorphic ones, will probably be mistaken for gods.

I would LOVE to see some movie about a rebirthed civilization where a Mcdonalds statue with a burger was unearthed and mistaken as a god.

I think it's completely possible that our recorded history could all be lost and misinterpreted. It's already happened, we're still trying to figure out what happened to the Sumerians, who recorded nearly everything into tablets. And what the pyramids were actually for. Sumerians would probably think we're the ones living in a future of historical inaccuracies.

They also will uncover some of our old what if movies like red dawn and Independence day and think they really happened. They will also think that all Americans were also rambo's and our guns never ran out of ammo.

I always wondered about this.

What if people didn't actually partake in these old religions, and it was just people RP'ing and cosplaying?

Also remember no one still have an idea on why the Stonehenge was built and you have all these supernatural theories being made on this.

Then there is the Easter Island heads (Squidward's house). If the Washington Monument still have part of the structure still standing, they might think it's some sort of religious symbol as well. Either that or maybe a symbol for male fertility if you know what I mean.

I doubt there will be a lot of historical inaccuracies from today unless we on purpose try really hard to remove facts and proof for something that has happened. But I guess it depends on the event.

The war on terror was a good idea and was well worth the trillions spent on it.

Funny thing is that this may have already happened.

I mean there are people who took "CSI" too seriously and that was the reason why there are jurors acquitted someone who return to finish off his girlfriend whom he stabbed earlier. Media and popular culture can have much more influence than one would think (not sure why people like CSI, I didn't really pay much attention to the show except for the one with Caruso).

You do realize the internet isn't infallible right? One screwup can be enough to wipe it out, really hope it won't be the case but you'll never know.
