Not pure = not metal, just like nu metal isn't considered metal because of all of the different pop and techno influences it evolves from. In addition, they're also listed as a genre called Neue Deutsche Harte, which is described as the following:

"Neue Deutsche Harte, also known as Die Neue Harte, German electronic metal or dance metal (tanzmetall), is a subgenre of rock music."

Anyway some grindcore is more pure than others; a lot of it has roots of hardcore punk and a lot of is more of what's called "slam death metal". It's a tough one to categorize.

I know a lot of girls that listen to "metal". I use quotations because I don't think screamo bands are actually METAL. Metal to ME is like...Metallica, Pantera, and Megadeth. That kind of stuff... I don't know anyone that listening to actual metal nowadays. It's all the emo screamo Black Veil Brides, As Blood Runs Black, Suicide Silence kind of stuff....
