You're right about the shading, i'm still trying out new ways of shading and this is my first drawing with that style.
By softening you mean adding more layers of colors to make the transition from dark-to-light and light-to-dark less noticeable right? Or do i use the blur tool or something else? I'm guessing the first one.
Well, blurring, or smudging is great if it's your finger on paper with pencil... although I still recommend a tortoni or paper towel to avoid actually damaging the paper. With photoshop, blurring or smuding it is going to make it look... well... blurred or smudged. So definitely the first one. One thing I would do, is once you shade it, adjust the contrast on your monitor, (not on the image,) and see how it looks that way, or if it's a flat screen, change your viewing angle. If you can see sharp changes in color, tone, etc... then fix them. Then set your monitor back and see how it looks.

Oh damn, changing view on the monitor really helps allot. Good tip.
Anyway, working on a new piece, trying to add allot more detail than with the last one especially with the lining.
Finding better and better techniques to shade.
Still going to add eyes, lips, hair, clothes and such. Might be a little time consuming to draw and shade the whole body before adding clothes and such, but i'm still learning from it.
Also don't mind the right hand, i'm gonna draw hair over it so i didn't bother wasting time drawing that.

This is rife with anatomical mistakes, particularly around the breasts. I think you should be drawing from references before drawing from imagination. Other than the glaring mistakes done around the chest and collarbone region everything else is looking great, I like your shading.
Made this in an hour using a fancy brush tool i only just found out about.
Done very quickly in 45 minutes. I'll try to make it more detailed next time, this piece isn't.

Your boobology terrifies me! On a smaller note, check for stretching/dislocations of the bones. Back to the bigger note, your boobs on your characters here are just incredibly wonky. On a plus note, your rendering skills are well on their way so keep up the ambition!
Also practice drawing real woman in any and all body shapes. Doing this will make stylizing characters a lot easier to accomplish. Here is a site with poses that can be referenced from: http://posespace.com/
Luckily because your favorite subject to draw is the female form, there is a blog entirely based on how not to draw women: http://eschergirls.tumblr.com/ Also for entertainment purposes. =D

Happy Hobbit Art Thread
Alright, finished this piece. Next stop, removing bland background/composition.

It's just so hard to find a certain style that i like.
This piece of practice seems a bit more flexible with the pose and lining, but the coloring overall just feels a little bit off.
And i'm also well aware that the left hand looks horrid.
WIP, actually really like this one.
Progress, this is actually the first time i feel content with the style of drawing.
I really like this cartoony style of drawing, maybe i'll stick with it if i'm gonna make flash animations.

That drawing looks pretty awesome.
Starting to look okay. It's got more of a depth look to it.
Added the finishing touches. seems to look kinda cheap, but i have no idea how i should shade. The way i shade is really time consuming, but doesn't look any good either.
Was watching cowboy bebop all week, damn good show.
alternate Resident evi 6 Leon skin. I think it fits very well next to the pirate one.
posting the actual art piece would help, yes it would.
You seem pretty eager to color your drawings and make everything look shiny. Just make sure your line drawing is right before you try to add all that eye candy. You would benefit from doing a bunch of loose anatomical and gestural sketches before settling in to do a completed piece.
