World War Two was just a war in which the allies fought a common enemy who threatened the well-being of everyone. The United States didn't save anyone, we just entered into the war to help defeat Hitler and then Japan. And if you want to look into the past, look a little farther. Without Britain, there would be no United States. No original 13 colonies, no great democratic constitution, no manifest destiny. We are who we are and we are allies of Europe. I just don't see the point in arguing with each other. Let's leave the past in the past and look forward to rebuilding our diplomatic situation with the rest of the world. (oh, and sorry for the essay)

Faggot! I'm not the one who going to join the marines who are almost as a big a bunch of faggots as the U.S navy. Death comes to us all but before it comes to you now this your an asshole.
I don't know, I leave the thread for a couple of hours ( I have a real life too! ) and when I get back it's degenerated back to a slagging match. Does anyone actually have anything worth saying?
I do!
The best regiment in the whole world has to be the Special Air Service. Since they're British, I conclude that the British armed forces are better than the US army.
The US army relies on weight of numbers to win it's battles (Bush doesn't mind the number of caskets coming back from Iraq) and the fact that they shoot blindly until their magazine runs empty.
We British on the other hand have mastered three shot bursts with auto weapons. Much more accurate and therefore cheaper. We are more Elite than you Yankees could ever possibly be.
There. I've said my piece, so can we stop this argument, please ladies and gentlemen.
Canada has a small population that is about 10% the population of the U.S. So you can't really expect us to have a large army, unless we were like North Korea and made sure 1 in 5 people were in the army, then we could have a 3 million man army LOL.
However our military is extremely underfunded to the point where we're doing things like buying second hand submarines from Britain, in which half of them didn't even work! We do need to start funding our military more and stop these government scandals where we find out they've been pocketing our tax dollars.
We did have a technologically advanced military at one time. Any Canadians here probably heard about the Avro Arrow in the 50's that was the first jet that could reach mach 5, apparently. Problem is the idea was scrapped when other countries didn't want to buy it and the project was cancelled. Many of the scientists working on the project were hired by the U.S. military.
I'd agree that the British army is one of the most highly trained in the world though. The U.S. would be second place, except when it comes to advanced weaponry which they do have the top spot in, at least for now. Although I'd keep an eye on China, I mean as soon as they start transitioning to a more capitalist society, we might find them the next superpower that dictates the policies of the world. The only country in the world with a 200 million man army. It would take 2/3 the population of the U.S. to match them in sheer manpower.

The British army may not be the biggest, but we don't have to us cannon fodder.
The Australian army is the best because they haven't lost any people in Iraq yet.............
We are the best trained and most gutsy soldiers.

Most gutsy!!! Until yesterday didn't Know the australian army was even in Iraq, so they are not likely to lose anyone if their that far out of the way.

That's because they train with all the best people and use camoflage. This technique helps everybody in the long run
USA proved their awesome power in WWII
When they used high-tech (at the time) military mobile cannons. I forget the size of the shells but they were pretty damn big.
The USA found out that the germans were about to take.. oooh damn i forgot the name, I'm really out of practice, My dad lectures me about WWII all the time. Some really important city or something, that if they got there, chances were the USA would be screwed.
But the USA, using mathmatical tactics, blew up the convoy by using the mobile artillery, it was over an unsee-able distance, so the Germans couldn't react, and the artillery were miles apart from eachother when they struck.
I'm sorry about how vague I'm being, I'll post again once I have my dad refresh my crappy memory.
Well, USA would have lost WWII for SURE if it wasn't for the Russians. The Russians saved our asses big time, they did most of the real fighting, holding back armies, fighting off skirmishes.

I have a feeling they're being more capitalist on the outside only.

Sorry, my research from various sources concludes the following top three for military skill (taking into account size, training, effectiveness in combat etc)
1) Britain
2) Switzerland (the Swiss are so well trained, that the whole country gets up and fights if they are invaded, pluis they don't interfere in other people's businesses)
3) US
I hear Norway are pretty hard too, they're a bit like Switzerland in that they don't get involved in things that don't directly affect them, which means they've never had to spend any money on mobilizing an army or replacing broken equipment so they've all got some top of the range stuff. Not sure where I heard that though so I could be wrong.
O.K the swiss army is good and they have a great defences the alps, but onething has been puzzling me you never see them carring a swiss army knife.

Without going into detail (since you covered it nicely) I have to agree with you. The British have always been the best trained and most disciplined army in the world. I've trained with them (as well as the Americans and Germans) and they impressed the hell out of me. I'm glad they're on our side.

Well said and the canadain army is not that bad. They have always lent a hand.

Although the Swiss are hardly in the thick of the action these days... XD
the american army is deffinatly a formidable force but when they achieve somethin the whole world will kno, when they rolled into baghdad all of the tank troops wanted "we r the champions" on their radios, this is wher they fall down, they r not modest n the sllghtest
Yeah remember when they pulled down the statue of Saddam and one prick draped an American flag over his head. Kinda defeated the point of them being there really. I think that's just how Americans are though, I don't mean it in a bad way but people in different countries always have different personalities and generally Americans have very little modesty.

This is what I'm trying to say, the americans always what to go straight for the capital so they can say that they won the war.
shouldnt this be in the politics section?

Am I the only Australian on the board? And Im afraid your wrong in your assertion however. The current naval and air fleets are monolithic. Hopefully the billions recently spent on upgrades will prove successful. Military recruitment nationally has been downsized 30% over the last thirty years.
Joined the the army cadets earlier this year. Nightraids, blitzes, and target practice. You should try it you nicturnal.

Indeed to that m8
The best way to show the quality in the British army is to look at the victoria cross(v.c). The last ones to be awarded were in the Falklands Conflict in 1982. Both were arwarded to dead sevicemen. Now it is almost impossible to be awarded one because of the use of computers in warfare. This shows that the British army still wants the same standard of troops before computer aid arrived.
I know that this is a bit of track, but there is a lot of people say that the U.S won world war 2, because they dropped the bomb on the japs. So what the U.S.A is saying is that they won the war for killing unarmed people. Over the near six years of the war the rest of the allies played their part, but the U.S.A still thinks they won.
dude in my post above I said how we all won World War 2 as allies. sure, there are a bunch of people who think america won the war, but the truth is that everyone on the allies helped. It wasn't just one nation that won the war. why do you keep pulling this shit back up? Its not like all americans are cocky bastards who live in the past.
fuck all armies. once you join, you become a slave of your own country, and when you enter war, you have a risk of being killed.
but the truth is that everyone on the allies helped. It wasn't just one nation that won the war. why do you keep pulling this shit back up? Its not like all americans are cocky bastards who live in the past.
It isn't exactly that we won the war, we just pushed it over the edge, but it isn't like we are that great, did anyone else see how badly we farked up vietnam, well, iraq is not the same thing, how the hell is it australia is supposed to be so great, the only thing i have ever seen about them is the augs which seems like a good gun
