It will cope, but I'm almost certain most new users are disturbed when they turn up to the forums to find a new 'NG IS DYINGZ' thread that we get every day.

I'd say this much: not a lot of people look around here for a quick laugh or game anymore. And in essence, this site is kind of obsolete (but with some shifts in the target audience, I suppose it can change).

I mean, really, who still goes around watching flash movies or playing flash games? The majority of people that used to do that were people who fumbled around the internet for cool shit. But with the advent of sites like tumblr/9gag/what have you, this form of content finding has been streamlined to fit into one site. Gone are the days wherein you'd hear banter like "hey man, I just found this cool site", instead, it's replaced by conversations about tumblr or 9gag posts. In the constant quest for convenience, even the internet itself is getting streamlined.

So now Newgrounds doesn't really have a genuine draw. We have Soundcloud for music, the aforementioned sites for quick laughs, iDevices/whatever for games, 4chan for forums, etc. etc. There's no definite field that Newgrounds can claim a marked advantage in anymore. It's like the web representation of the expression "jack of all trades, master of none."

So that would probably be an explanation for NG's noticeable decline these past few years. It's diversifying and branching out in an age where simplicity and ease-of-use reigns.

I was a new user once, and I never saw any threads like that.

I'm still a semi-newbie now and this is the first I've seen any threads llike that, and I come here practically everyday.

Don't judge me. Don't you fucking judge me.

It's time to get pissed off.

I know that times are changing and it's not doing as well as it was a few years ago, but how can you not see what I'm saying? Being a fucking bummer about it drags everything down.

When people think it's sinking, they jump ship, and it only sinks more.

But the upside is that the higher-ups would be well aware that they need to revise their site.

Much like how politicians react to complaints or revolutions.

The problem is that the internet as a whole is being much more centralized. Popularity, and the revenue, lies in the more known websites that do everything that NG did +more.

i mean, 2005 NG design was pretty cool.
aniway, i don't think that NG is dead, it just a dark period for this site, maybe in the next future when NG upgrades to new technologies (html5,android ecc..) it will become again a frequented site.
the only thing that scares me is that with an android upgrade we will have tons of shitty games just like games factory 2.

I had a different account I made back in 06, there were some good times. I agree that viewing new content and not only the best was something that was refreshing about newgrounds.

Really, I've seen it since I started up on this site and every year since. Its a common trend in any community. Online or In Real Life. It should largely be ignored.

Exactly.

Let's say there's a new website that has started and it doesn't have a lot of viewers obviously. You wouldn't call it dead then?

Newgrounds has just had a little decline, but it should be able to rise again if the NG staff and contributors do it right.

Does anyone know how Facebook became that big and popular? I'm convinced their strategy was used deliberately and it was very professional. Quote from Wikipedia:

Membership was initially restricted to students of Harvard College, and within the first month, more than half the undergraduate population at Harvard was registered on the service.

It was first only for the students at one specific school (I'm sure they already then intended some more), but that was to get as many as possible in that local area to register. And they were successful. FB was later released for other schools and eventually opened worldwide. Let me just say that I actually, currently, dislike Facebook but their marketing strategy was ingenious.

Sorry for mentioning Facebook so much, but anyways the guy who promoted the website is called Chris Hughes.

Tom, you should consider hiring him or some other similiar guy, that might be very profitable.

Yeah Newgrounds is dead, it's been dead for ages. I signed up in 2009 back when it was thriving, it was really cool back then but now... R.I.P. Newgrounds, I'll always remember how you were not as you are.

first game playable on the phone?

there are phones that can play flash games
even in 2008 there was a flash on phones

phones are more or less equal to or greater than 1995 - 2001 computers
its just the software that holds them back

many of them can run Microsoft windows and linux pc versions

we have the power to port flash via emulation
with a cut down minimalistic linux or react os and an emulator you can run any pc application on your phone

or even run linux or windows directly

I was talking about the iPhones, because, who cares about anything else?

After I made that post, I realised my mistake of making it sound like the first game EVER playable on the phone, but I thought no one would notice it anyway.

The whole point of the redesign was to try and inject some life back into the site, the Newgrounds staff know that the site isn't doing well and most of the old userbase knows this too and to tell you the truth it's not really a secret (The Supporter badges in the store and most of the site's big contributors moving onto sites like Youtube) and it failed. Now there's not as much interesting content being uploaded to the portal and what's left of the userbase is nothing but adolescent My Little Pony fans and furries.

This is what Tom gets for trying to run Newgrounds like a hobby all this time. It's not right for the nature of the site, Some of the staff here have based their careers on Newgrounds and now site like Armor Games and such are leaving Newgrounds behind in the dust. As a site, it might not be dead now, but right now it's going through chemo. Whether it lives or not, only time will tell.

Not sure why I typed this up, either nobody will read it or it'll just get dismissed as garbage.

nope there were ones in the appstore
and even more if you jail broke it

the hardware of the I-range is more than capable of running flash
but i-os sucks balls
i miss the days of flip phones that were intended to be phones and not indistinguishable from a a tablet pc with a voip app
you still had a few java games and apps and WAP

but they were more user-friendly as a phone and flip phones and clamshell phones positioned the speaker and mic better

the way sheeple use the web is rapidly shifting
the msn era is over
people no longer talk about what they did on the internet or irl with instant messaging

they make small talk with facebook about facebook
surfing is becoming less frequent because some sheeple exclusively use face book and youtube

other content portals are simply unable to compete with youtube
but they still have advantages over youtube

(The Supporter badges in the store and most of the site's big contributors moving onto sites like Youtube) and it failed.
Now there's not as much interesting content being uploaded to the portal and what's left of the userbase is nothing but adolescent My Little Pony fansL

that cancer is all over the internert

and furries.

zoophiles have always been on the internet

This is what Tom gets for trying to run Newgrounds like a hobby all this time.

so you are saying he is an inadequate leader
maybe we should do a survey (CONTENT PRODUCERS ONLY)
and ask what modifications would make new grounds a more attractive place to upload their stuff
and what they are getting from other sites they are not
an additional survey(s) for viewers
old users why they stayed
new users why they came

and what everyone would want on the site

It's not right for the nature of the site, Some of the staff here have based their careers on Newgrounds

i think the userbase is the driving force

and now site like Armor Games and such are leaving Newgrounds behind in the dust.

they posted stuff on newgrounds using their preloader to draw attention to their websites
there has been a noticeable decrease in that happening

As a site, it might not be dead now, but right now it's going through chemo. Whether it lives or not, only time will tell.

we need good users to stay
but we need more people to become good users
everyone can make a portal submission
we need a swarm of newbies to make their first flash and we can see if we see any potential
if we attract more new users
i suggest we have a section of the front page full of the best animation and game making tutorials

or
GAMES, Movies, Audio, art, channels, community, shop ng
add learn
& put classic portal while your at it

Not sure why I typed this up, either nobody will read it or it'll just get dismissed as garbage.

i don't think its garbage

I blame the pony fags.... the fags.... animefags... and the fur fags.

Two thirds of the NG community is lame as fuck.

One third is amazing, and as long as that small fraction stays around to treat the other 2/3 like complete shit, I'm cool with it.
