I have finally decided to start my Art Thread at Newgrounds. I will be posting random sketches I make, epic shit, and my attempts to make sexy wimmin.

Feel free to critique my work because I never went to a drawing school to learn what I know, so your criticism is my education.
If you haven't seen my work visit Opelm.com or check it out at newgrounds.

Also I'd love to have you all as audience on Facebook Pageas well

Feel free to share your questions and techniques.

Here's something I worked on today. I think this whole Art Thread idea might be good because it helps me make images I "don't care about" basically I wouldn't present these as a polished piece but rather a thought ejected from my mind. I wanted to try out a hard pose something I'm not comfortable drawing yet. Played around with some intense specular lighting on her shoulder, boob, and cheekbone.

Let me know what you guys think :D

ooh, wow. Now I like that.
I think you landed the piece pretty well. You should try and flesh it out into a final piece. I think it'd be a nice edition.

As for art threads. Yeah, this is pretty much what we all use them for, brain droppings and shits and giggles. They are good for experimentation and WIPs.
so yeah use it to get a little feed back, some nice comments and to hone your skills.

I hear ya Kinsei, that's exactly what I intend to use this art thread for. I'm glad to have started it. I feel like now all those random drawings I make have a better place to go other than the recycling bin Lol

On another note I was wondering what kind of comic book panel I would make if I wasn't paying too much attention to details. Here's the foreground, the background is just a placeholder matte painting. I honestly can't draw backgrounds for my life. I'd probably use 3DS max to construct a city and snapshot it from different angles.

One of those days where I try to paint a decent looking girl and end up making a damn pornstar. I looked at Kim Kardashian`s figure as reference for this - maybe that explains the pornstarish look lool

Gonna be posting the colored version here soon

I really admire your drawing of women. Especially since you took time to actually brush up on anatomy. It's really nice. I also loved your tutorial, it was quite useful. Keep it up!

Thanks Fifty, I appreciate your words. I`m glad that people were able to put that tutorial to use. Though I won`t be posting all my drawings so well polished on this thread. This is really a place to dump my artistic thoughts :)

Colored version of ''Wonder Woman'' , if anyone ever wonders how I did the skin color here`s the process

After completing the gray scale (which in my opinion is the MOST crucial part of defining the tones)
I cover up the regions of the skin with a tan color
I switch the layer style to Linear Burn and set it to 43%... any higher and she'd have a guido's skin.

Either her forearm is too small or her arm just isn't wide enough. Hopefully your using references.

Her face is looking great though, good proportions there.

I'll have to try this sometime, I never tried drawing a picture with the tones first, could be interesting. But doesn't it feel like cheating? My way of adding tone is I'll do it on the same layer or sometimes if I'm unsure I'll put it on a new layer so I can go back.

The actual arm was like that, I think it's due to perspective. It's weird to look at once drawn.

haha cheating, no it's actually a method of painting to go from Grayscale to Color. When I make my images I sometimes end up with well over 40 layers but I keep collapsing the ones I'm satisfied with. You should definitely try Grayscale painting if you haven't done so before - I mean it should be your duty as an artist to do what you must in order to improve your level of understanding along with your level of techniques.

Painting done using a mouse in my 3 hour theoretical photography class, I paid no attention to light source or any fine details - just did this to kill time.

I hate it when a teacher rolls a powerpoint and begins to lecture, worst shit ever to sit through. It's worse when it's a class you don't give a crap about and you have to remain silent the whole way through.

hahaha Octomom! Yes I see exactly what you mean, it's her forehead, nose and lips that give away the Octomom feel.

Step 2 - Grayscale - the part that agonizes me the most. I always have a loop at images of Artgerm from deviantart as I make this and get depressed LOL he's got god-like skills.

Don't worry it takes time to learn how to draw women. I learned a lesson, the figure and face of a woman is so delicate that one mistake makes them appear masculine. But then again that depends on your idea of a woman. Mine for example is that of a superficial one - not the best thing that's for sure but it's what I've seen for the majority of times so now it's stuck in my head.

It took me years to get decent at drawing women. I started off with basic shapes and constantly drawing faces in my school books. Also reading about drawing is very important if you are determined to improve. Good luck to you :D

---------

Step 3 - Sugar coating the image with some colorss
So I turned her into Sailor Venus... fk lol this is what happens when you have no color theme in mind.

What do you do when you practice making a female and she looks too generic? ... Turn her into Batgirl! (or some other super heroine)

This is another artistic dump of mines trying to improve my painting skills. Sometimes I feel like I have made an improvement yet I feel like it's not enough. Must... seek... guidance lol

Work in progress for my 3d Creation class, it's the end of the semester project - gotta present a fictional tv station known as Robot Tv. This is a still from my animation which is now complete. The only things missing are extra effects which I'll work on for the next few days.

You're gonna post the final animation, right? I'd be bloody interested to see how it looks.

I will say this; take it easy on the fuzzy brushes, or at least experiment in using harsher brushes and "stronger" linework for your sketches, because right now they ain't as easy on the eyes as they could be. Cman does the same, and his sketches look like unfocused fuzzballs. I haven't told him yet.

Otherwise, fuckin A thread man, and don't ever let a lack of attention get to you. We're always watching you, always.

Thanks for pointing out the fuzzyness, I'm gonna focus on fixing it on my next practice project - everytime I paint I look at other people's work and I just slap myself on the face LOL it's depressing how pros become pros ya know.

Also for the Gundam I have a mini turntable of the model on my facebook page accessible through opelm.com . I'll upload an image of the not so impressive turntable which I haven't uploaded on my facebook page.

Ha, yeah I'm trying to use stronger brushes from now on. I'm going to try drawing things on paper then painting them digitally.

First time I try a serious photo manipulation for my photography class. My friend came over and took a pic of my from the back and I turned myself in to a cyborg dude.

The armor is made up of various motorcycle jacket pieces for the most part. The background is a matte painting with 2 soldiers from halo. The shoulder/back perspective is a bit awkward in this.
