Toronto Meet 2013

When: April 2013
Where: Toronto, ON, Canada

Toronto has not seen a meet in a while which is why I've decided to give a lot of time for people to make commitments. I expect a small showing to be honest, looking for a more mature and reliable crowd. Anyone interested please also PM me.

Should there be a good and cool group interested I will be booking a table at Snakes & Lattes. It is an awesome cafe where you can play any board game you can think of, I think they say they have 1500 in their collection, and they also have a license to serve alcohol if inebriated Risk(or Settlers, which will be even more interesting) is your thing.

For now it will be a one day and short event for anyone living in the city or nearby. If people decide to trek then I'll plan more things to make it worthwhile the trip.

I find that hard to believe. They let anyone in here, they even let Luis in!

Is there going to be drinking during this meet?

That's why I posted this way beforehand so maybes have lots of time to become yeses.

They serve alcohol there so bring your ID. If there are enough 'legal' users that attend I know a bunch of cool bars to go to top off the night.

Hopefully some oldcomers will show up for this meet.

Probably some of the same bars I've been to in 2010.

As for hotels; the place most of us stayed in in '10 was the Novotel on Esplanade.

Hahahaha, ha.

I'm hoping the Ripley's Aquarium of Canada will be open by April. It would definitely be a cool place to visit.

I'm game! Although I wouldn't be able to let you know until January, it all depends where I am with college.

That's why I am giving lots of time in advance, also this will be on a weekend so it doesn't clash with school/work as much.

This snakes and lattes joint sounds neat.

It is probably one of the coolest places to hang out. Also ridiculously busy as far as reservations go, they are usually booked up 2-3 months in advance.

Oh I should have considered that!

I'll strongly consider moving it to the summer months.

No need to worry about me since I'm not going.

Would May or June be better for students?

Well I guess early May or late April would make most sense, like I said this is just trying for a small meet for people in or near Toronto to go to. So this could be for people here that can't go all the way to Montreal for that one.

So I guess for college/university students my question is around when are your exams all over?

I've wanted to visit that café ever since I learned of its existence.
I'm moving to TO in January soooo I'll try to remember to... remember this.

It's funny, I logged onto the General forum specifically wondering if there were any TO meets planned and this was on the first page. And you highlighted the place I wanted to visit. So it must be a sign.

Maybe I'll go if someone gives me a ride there. Drinking age is still 18 in Canada, right?

Most provinces are 19+

Quebec might be 18. Ontario is 19 I'm pretty sure :P

As far as cool places to chill it is the place to go, so that'd be awesome if you can remember this Zerok even though it is still quite a while from now.

I think it'd be best to set this either the last weekend of April or first weekend of May. It'd be mostly a matter of which weekend more people can make it to I would think. To book the place needs about 2-3 months in advance, for that time I'll say most likely 3.

I'll do what I can. Maybe put it in my iCal. That should do it.

MONTHS?! Wow, is it crowded like 24/7 or what? I was hoping to make it my little hideaway spot. </dreams>

To reserve tables for a group, there are walk-in tables which have some wait time depending on when you go but of course that is not a good option for a larger group. If you look at the reservations page they are already booked up pretty much into January right now.

Look - If you want people to go, you can't put it in June because Montreal does its meet then (and has for quite a while) and you can't put it last weekend of April because a lot of us go down to Philidelphia for pico day. I'm sure I could get quite a few ppl from here in Montreal to go to Toronto, but not around those dates.

Well I mostly intend this to be a smaller and more local meet to sort of build a core community for NG members in Toronto and places close by. If we can establish that then we can start looking to do the annual big thing like Montreal does. For now it'd just be cool for the user local to here to get connected.
