Disney buys Lucasfilms, Episode 7 Oct. 30th, 2012 @ 04:17 PM Reply

Disney has swooped to acquire LucasFilm in a $40.05bn move.

Furthermore, Disney has confirmed the planned launch of new movie sequel Star Wars VII in 2015 âEUoewith more feature films expected to continue the Star Wars saga and grow the franchise well into the futureâEU.

sauce .

I'm...not too sure what to think of this. Initial shock and grief, but I really don't know where this is going. Thoughts? It seems to be the real deal, unless it's very well-executed trolling.

Growing signs of a potential monopoly aren't good.

Exactly. What's wrong with people?

It's not like Lucasfilm was producing any quality stuff at the moment. Just take a look at Star Wars Episode 1-2-3, and the clone wars crap.

Well, I suppose I'm a little torn after seeing some of the responses. Yes, it's true that (from the point of view of a more casual fan such as myself) Marvel seemed to benefit from Disney buying them. Then again, becoming an even larger Monopoly is a little bit scary. I mean, who's next?

Marvel was not picked up after having a completed series of movies.

This is basically a Star Wars reboot, so if it has ANYTHING to do with the previous movies, it will suck.

Well done indeed.

Though I do seriously wonder how it will turn out. Probably sub par, but it's still interesting to see what they will do with it.

I've always wanted a sequel trilogy.

And I'm guessing the mood will be more like Disney's recent Mars movie (forgot the name), and less like the prequels.

Episode 7?

I don't like where this is going.

It'll probably be subpar if it's supposed to directly follow episode 6 in terms of the storyline. Even in the Expanded Universe of Star Wars after Episode 6, the story is a little subpar.

They had books set between each movie, after, and before. There is a lot that can be done with the series. I'm interested in seeing where this can go.

But it seems like a mistake. I don't see that 4 billion coming back. Not 40 billion, 4 billion.

Disney bought Marvel but The Avengers was not made by Disney, it was only distributed by them.

I will definitely be skipping this. The next time I see a Star Wars movie in theatres will be Episode IV in 3D, that's it.

everything that Disney touches instantly turns to shit

not that it matters much , hollywood has been going down shit hill at tremendous speeds recently , and it seems the more shit that they produce, the more idiots support it , and thus creating a never ending loop of shit being created to be supported by idiots

Ok so we have just over 2 years to get everyone in the world to agree not to see this movie that will further ruin the Star Wars universe. Lets get to it people.

Actually, 4 billion, not 40 billion.
That's about how much they bought Marvel for, right? All the movies they've made since then I think have been pretty good, So I'm not too worried about the next 3 Star Wars movies, unless of corse they get a sucky director (I hope not.) IMO the prequels were ok, but Anakin was too whiny mostly in the middle, Obi-Wan looked a bit too young to later turn into an old man in just 19 years, and Jar Jar Binks.... No... just... no....

But I think they saw all the rage they got from the prequels (again, I have nothing against the prequels) so the sequels have to be at least a bit better. I don't know, maybe it's just because I can't be all "oh fuck you George Lucas you ruined my childhood" because I didn't have much interest in Star Wars until just recently, actually. But I'm just saying this from the point of view of a person who saw all six movies at once, so I see it all as one movie series, not two. It's kind of weird to think of a seventh movie, because I can never really think of much of a plot after Darth vader and Palpatine and Ben (characters of all six movies) die, Luke becomes a Jedi and the Death stars go kablamo. I guess it's gonna be interesting to see.

And yes, Leia is now a Disney princess.

I think that is what's needed to be done with LucasFilm.

Besides, Star Wars has been crap since Return of The Jedi.

If Disney wants to do the right thing, they need to just but LucasFIlm just to make sure no more sucky Star Wars movies are made.

If Star Wars is to survive, it needs to be put to rest and incubated for at least a good 20 years.
