Lately I've seen these NG Preloaders that have a giant box for ads and buttons linking to various social networking sites of the creator and what not. I feel like a noob for asking, but where can I find the template?

You can try searching here http://www.newgrounds.com/wiki/creator-resources/flash-api/g etting-started-with-the-api/flash. Its another alternative to the preloader and It can also generate revenue. You should try looking up API on newgrounds to get more info.
