Smoking tastes good, smells good and feels good and looks cool to a lot of people. That's it. With or without alcohol. For me personally, I find it relaxing. Of course, decades back, cigarette ads were everywhere--on TV, on the radio, almost everywhere in public. You could smoke in most public places. Fast forward to where we are today...it's a totally different world we live in. The war on cigarettes and smoking in general has gone too far, and I really have to ask how much further will the government go.
Cigarettes may be strongly correlated with lung cancer, but that doesn't mean they necessarily cause it in everyone. You will still find many cases in which smokers lead long lives without developing lung cancer. I know some in my own family. No one will know for sure whether they're lucky or unlucky in that regard until very late in life.
People that are worried about getting hooked should probably stay away from cigarettes and all forms of smokeless tobacco, and stick to just cigars and pipes. However, if you have to smoke cigarettes, smoke Camels, because more doctors smoke Camels than any other cigarette.
