American Psycho is a modern film and it's my 2nd favourite movie of all time next to 2001: A Space Odyssey

American Psycho is in fact my 2nd favourite film of all time and it's in fact a modern remake of another film, by the same name! 2001: A Space Odyssey is probably my favourite of all time.

I'm not a huge fan of going to the movies, so I really can't say how much I like "modern" (post 2000) movies compared to older ones.

Modern film is incredible. Even on a bad week there's usually at least one release I'm interested in seeing, and over the summer I was up at the cinema 2 or 3 times a week. Want to get to Beasts of the Southern Wild this weekend, and hopefully see Holy Motors too if it's still playing.

Maybe you're just not seeing the right films then.

I have a membership card at a local cinema. I go there at least once a week and I've seen plenty of good films worth a watch over the past one-and-a-half year and also plenty of great films of the past 20-30 years.

Of course the absolutely brilliant films are rare, but not everything has to be a masterpiece to be enjoyable, interesting and/or original.

The mainstream blockbuster AAA films can be pretty shit.

like that Paranormal Activity movie that has already gotten so many sequels.

Some mainstream movies can be pretty good though and a lot of movies outside of the 'mainstream' are also really good.

Just remember that you don't have to always watch the latest movies there are hundreds of movies out there including foreign movies I doubt you'll run out for a long time if ever

There will always be good films coming out and there will always be shitty films coming out, no matter what year it is. To say otherwise is wrong and making generalizations where they shouldn't be made.

Wanna see a good "modern day movie"? Watch 2011's Drive. That one is brilliant.

Modern movies are great. Some of my favourite films have come out in just the last few years. There are a lot of remakes, yes.. and none of them do all that well in the box office or critically. You're just not watching the right movies.

Watch movies like Bruges, Inception, Drive, and Black Swan. Don't judge the entire movie industry by a few remakes.

Watch some of these: http://www.icheckmovies.com/lists/2010s/

I'm tempted to say that I hate all movies made this year, just because of The Avengers and its positive reception. I really disliked the movie, and so many of my friends saying that it's a great movie or even the greatest movie to come out recently just makes me hate it.

I do like a lot of movies though, some of them pretty old, most of them from the 90s and up. I don't think there's any shortage of good movies coming out, it's just that a lot of the not-so-great movies seem to be getting most of the attention.

It made more sense in my head.

I liked The Avengers. It was a good action movie. But that's really all it is.. an action movie. A movie that is only good because of the action should never be considered great, in my opinion. It's only as good as it is because of the really high budget. The Raid: Redemption is better than The Avengers and it has a much smaller budget.

I can't say I really liked that film. It was 100 minutes of almost non-stop shooting and martial arts fighting with a few short minutes to breath. Admittedly, there were a couple of very tense moments, but after watching half an hour of people throwing punches and kicks at each other I got pretty tired of it.
