Good camera tricks? Oct. 2nd, 2012 @ 11:50 AM Reply

Anyone have any good illusions or tricks that can be done on a camera(either photographs or video)?
Well, I'm sure someone does, but anyone want to share?

I'm not talking using Photoshop or any editing tricks, I'm talking about Vaudeville type illusions or old magic tricks, whatever works. I know the window trick to make "ghosts" appear on camera(strategically placing a window in front of a camera with lighting also strategically placed with the desired "ghost" behind the camera).

Help me out, NG. I know someone knows something.

make sure the camera has film in it and the flashbulb is fresh. make sure no one moves for the full minute of the duration of the exposure. it is advisable not to smile since it is hard to hold still for a long time.

you don't know if i'm joking or not

That's awesome.

I just realized how often running with Contra Zoom and a "Pole Cam" is used in cartoons... and how I've never seen it in a live action film.

I know. I have seen it in live action. It looks pretty awesome. I like the way it can be used to focus on one character while making the area around them seem to slide.

It was like I asked, though, what about Vaudeville type illusions?

"Oh, so why don't you just use Google if you know what it is?" Well, Vaudeville was on stage, not on camera, and most of the tricks are easily noticeable when they can be rewound. I just don't know any that have been inspired by those tricks, though.

i know what vaudeville is. i just dont know what photography "tricks" you are trying to replicate that were in vaudeville. please give me an example.

I said I wanted to do Vaudeville style tricks on camera, not photography tricks used in Vaudeville plays. You are reading into something I didn't say. I even clearly said in the quote you used I was looking for things inspired by Vaudeville. How you read that and still didn't get it, I don't know.

For best results, blow on the audio receiver while the trick is in action as loud as you possibly can.

If you do it in reverse, as in zooming in the camera while tracking back, it'll create a weird warping and effect.

Try prolonged exposures. Do it in the dark with glowsticks or try making a snow angel with it or something.
