The Bomb has Fallen

IâEUTMm left with two choices. I can run into the radiation and be slowly poisoned, or I can wait for those cursed men to catch up with me, and I am so tired of runningâEU¦
Almost before I realise it, I hear the tell-tale sounds of footsteps in the tunnel behind me. The bomb has fallen; their job is complete. Now theyâEUTMre in it for fun.
I fall solidly solidly to the floor of the tunnel below the city. The city I was sworn to protect. The city I failed. These men will kill me, but the radiation of their own bomb will be my avenger.
I hear an ear-splitting crack, reverberating in the tunnel around me. ThereâEUTMs an impact directly in my neck, and my pain, my fatigue, my worries, all leave.
IâEUTMm free.
Free to move on.
Free of the body that failed me.
Free of the world we destroyed,
And free of the people who destroyed it.
I only wish I could have done more to save it.

There ya go. I wrote that on my iPod, in ten minutes, on the toilet. I thought it was pretty good, given the circumstances.
