http://www.popsci.com/diy/article/2012-08/gray-matter-how-sc ience-helps-bike-thieves I once had my bike stolen by this method. Next bike I bought I installed a GPS unit inside, so if someone steals it again I can track it down. Anyone else had a bike stolen? What did you do about it?

Mostly people that don't have a whole lot of money or those who like to steal for the fun or profit. It is a big problem in many major cities.

A real man has a second line of defense on his bike that decapitates the perpetrator with a laser should he try to break in.

That just made me think of a secondary device that could electrify your bicycle if the first lock is broken. Thanks for that bit of inspiration.

Speaking of expensive bikes I doubt this atrocity would last 5 minutes on the streets of East LA.

Im sorry i mean "GOOD" bikes, obviously they deserve a better title since they're far from regular.

"Expensive" and "Good" are all kind of vague terms. An example would be useful for those not in the know.

$13,330 for a fucking bike? You could get a nice set of wheels for that price.

I use a plastic coated cable, set into two loops at either end. The cable is steel, so flexible, but gets pulled so tight, so as not to allow thieves to access my quick-release wheels either.

The padlock usually sits tight by the frame, so if they did spray it with canned air, to fracture it, will probably catch the frame, thus breaking that as well, so the thief busts my bike up, as well as stealing it. Cunt.

That's why the best bike locks are the chains with a coating of industrial strength rubber. Fuck solid metal ones.

Some guy with a screwdriver stole mine, he was gonna poke out my eye or something. So he took it and I never saw that bike again. It was pretty nice too. It was a red mountain bike or something. I guess that little hispanic/ black kid needed it more...

And they just aim at the lock. Industrial condom or not, they will steal the bike. It is written!

They still have to spray the lock with canned air for a few minutes and then hammer it for a while. It must be noisy.

I live on a college campus and the bike racks are right next to the dorms so even if a thief came at 2:00 in the morning someone would hear the "PING! PING!" noise and get pissed off about it. Of course, the day wouldn't be an option because the campus is always crowded.
