In case you don't know, Windows 8 will be hitting stores on October 26 - That's just 30 days from now!
Will you be buying it? Or will you be holding off until the release of Service Pack 1, or the discontinuation of Windows XP?
And if you do buy it, be sure to tell us of your installation experience, and any problems you had along the way.
Something new to look forward to:

Fuck. No.
Or will you be holding off until the release of Service Pack 1, or the discontinuation of Windows XP?
I will continue to use Windows 7.

Is Microsoft still going to make people pay to have the ability to play DVDs and Blu-Rays on a computer with Windows 8?

I think I will stick with Windows 7. I have Windows 7 and a few flavors of Linux on this computer. I usually never wind up using a Windows OS when it first comes out; too many bugs to be worked out. I can always fool around with Mac OS if I get bored in the meantime.

Heil, mein furher Linus.
But before Finland fought against the Nazis, they fought with the Nazis against the Soviets in the Continuation War.

I'm kind of surprised Ubuntu didn't get even better performance. I'm sure a slimmed down version or a slimmer Linux OS would handily beat out Windows in performance.

Windows 7 is fine; 8 is mostly meant to be compatible on mobile devices such as Windows Phone.
WindowsXP users are gonna be so screwed soon.

Actually, with PlayOnLinux, most big releases run on it. And more and more games are being ported to Linux with their initial release.

I'm not spending more time on this than I have to.

Wasn't it only a little while ago that they released Windows 7?
Also Gabe Newell (and he is a pretty trustworthy person) criticized the shit out of Windows 8 which has given me doubts about it.
For now its definitely no.

I doubt I'll start using windows 8. Although it depends on how bad/good it turns out to be.

I really hope Windows 8 does not follow the pattern of 1 crappy operating system after one operating system. Another Vista-like disaster would be hard to recover from.

Windows will eventually stop updating XP, which means that it will slowly become more difficult to use a computer running XP with man of the new media and software on the net. Then again, it also makes it a smaller target for hackers. It will be some time before you are totally screwed, so I wouldn't worry about it. You'll know when you need to upgrade.

How screwed will it be really? I mean, does this mean it's to the point where its barely working at all?

Try using a Windows 95 computer with the internet as it is today and you will get a sense of where XP is headed. Yes, at some point it will barely be working at all or hopelessly antiquated, but in all likelihood your computer will die by then, so I wouldn't worry about it too much.

No, I've never made love to a computer, why do you ask?
