Sometimes people don't want to wait a while for their food.

Not many people wonder why we're the fattest country on earth, most people are aware of why it's happening

Another thing, I don't see very many fat people in real life. I see them everywhere on tv and in movies, but then I go to places like wal-mart, or even a mall, and I see a ratio of about 2 fat people to 10 not-fat people

I guess in the real world, they just stuff themselves in a mcdonalds or burgerking all day

Because they are extremely profitable. Think about it. They use the lowest quality food bought for the cheapest prices. Then they sell it for a very large profit. Their employees are paid minimum wage and use machines to reduce the amount of people necessary. They also have better ad coordination then pretty much any other group of restaurants. There are other reasons, but the fact that they are extremely profitable and have great exposure to the general population accounts for at least some of their success. Did I mention that their food has lots of sugar, salt, and fat; all things that human beings enjoy, are drawn too, and can become addicted to? You don't see people wolfing down heaps of celery or whole wheat bread do you?

Apparently Samoa is the fattest nation. Saudi Arabia is pretty fat too. People aren't too fat in most of Africa though. I bet if they started taxing people for being above a certain weight the problem would largely take care of itself.

It beats starving, fast food is pure convenience. You don't have to eat it everyday, I usually cook for the most part. That and some of their offers aren't always bad for the price they ask.

Agreed, fast food is pure convenience. Order your food and within one minute its ready. You eat it, enjoy it and go home. Now is it the healthy choice, obviously not but who are we trying to kid? If we are hungry and want something delicious for cheap...those fast food places provide what we are looking for.

Why don't you look around more to find local restaurants. They do exist you know. As someone else put it supply and demand. Hey, when you get around to pulling that stick out of your ass why don't you try beating yourself with it.

I personally find making my own food more convenient and cheaper. I the food in a thermos or lunch box for when I'm traveling around and I also have a better idea on what I'm actually eating. Fast food companies tend you use really, really crappy ingredients as I have mentioned before. Of course this takes some skill, like knowing how to put things on a sandwich and using a knife, but those are skills that you can learned over time.

It's definitely a convenience thing for me, it's one of the two stores that are open 24 hours in this town, and definitely the cheaper option. It's pretty obvious that it isn't meant for every-day consumption.

Ah, but they can be. The less we rely on these giant food conveyor belts the better off we'll be. Part of the reason healthcare is so expensive is because we're so fat in the USA and worldwide. Fast food tends to have higher fat, sugar, and salt content then other places and there is a direct relationship with how many times you visit a fast food joint and how fat you are. Plus, not being able to prepare your own food means you are in a bit of pickle in case of a power outage or a storm. It's not a cure all, but for most people it is best to avoid these places. It does make a difference. The only reason they exist is because we buy from them after all. If less people bought fast food there would be less fast food.

It's built in our brains to reward us with pleasure every time we eat something high in fats and sugars. The more easily convenienced these suppliers are placed, the more people will buy from them.

Most convenient way to get fast food: put that shit everywhere, make brains feel good (but hearts feel bad)

A lot of fast food places now deliver, so you don't even need to get off your ass to eat. Reminds you of those fat people in Wall-E, doesn't it?

Some people mentioned that these people will just kill themselves off faster and that is partly true, but consider this. If you reduce your lifespan by a third by eating enough food to feed four people then four people starve in exchange for for a few decades taken off your life. Seems like a statistical loser to me.
