4.07 / 5.00 10,082 ViewsHello everyone I'm Absinthe. I decided to finally make an art thread to showcase some of my art and possibly get some critiques in my wake. What I hope to accomplish through this thread is to learn where I'm inherently weak in, and find ways to patch up those problems. I have aspirations to become an animator although I believe I must convey movement through a single frame i.e illustrating.
So I guess I'll shut up now and just show some art, enjoy.
This is some fanart of Donquixote Doflamingo from one of my favorite anime series "One Piece"
I try to do hard poses, these are all from memory, and I think I have a little problem with distorted foreshortening.
I call him "Red Prisoner," and I made him in sketchbook pro on my IPad...got love finger art.
More finger art, I really have no name for him because I suck at giving arbitrary names to every "piece"
What gives you the right to tell me I have 1 year left to live?
---Why this piece of paper :3
Your linework is nice, anatomy and positioning is also pretty good, but I can't help but notice some of the proportions are off, especially when you try to make a fancy 3D pose with, like, a hand closer than the rest of the body.

Yeah believe me, I'm never truly "happy" with anything I do because the image looks so cool in my head but then I try to put it to practice and I get so-so level results.
Me painting, if you've watched this show and still remember the name you're awesome

Aye aye sir! It's just charging now so I'll get to it soon, for the mean time here's something else.
I'll check in later for a response, this one is pretty old and it's called "Robot Son" on my NG page
Making something for the Chow Succubus thread, and the deadline is Oct 1st so the results should be fun.
Meh, I hate the result so I'm not submitting it, but I really need help with painting and blocking in colors. I know how to shade with cross hatching but with painting and advance blending it's hard.
Reworking on the succubus thing, I remain patient.
I would also like to mention if you have a pose you would like me to draw I will be happy to do it.
Quick doodle of face expressions with my finger
And this was a little bit more difficult, took me about an hour to understand how to actually paint him.
I'm assuming since school has started and classes are always rigorous in the first month (being that adjusting takes a little while for some) that would be the leading factor to why this thread has not received any attention. However I remain diligent and hopeful that I would get some new ideas/resources/critiques at a later date.
I just hope this thread doesn't get closed by lack of interest.
Anyway I'm a little bit bummed so here's something a I made a while back.
I call him, "Humbled Noble."
I remember this iconic scene in Yu yu Hakusho so I wanted to do a little homage it. I kept the reference in for a side by side comparison.
Can anyone share their blending techniques? Here's mine.

I'm assuming you're not using a tablet, so I can relate to what you're looking for.
Before I had a tablet I was using a laptop trackpad to draw and discovered the method of blending through this tutorial.
I did 2 blending test with 20-30% opacity (on the left) and a 40-60% opacity (on the right) with a flow of 45-60%.
It's safe to say that I did the 40-60% opacity one first then lower the opacity to 20-30% to get the result at the left.
I also usually just tap clicking and alt color sample simontaneously without stroking when blending.
Sizes of brushes difinitely varies when blending.

I have my tablet at my dorm right now, so being home for the weekend I thought I could blend with just my trackpad.
Anyway I'll test your rule of thumb. 100%-60%-20%
I guess practice makes perfect, and thanks for the tutorial it was very similar to the various ones I read prior, but it was nice to have a narrator. It was sort of like Spazkid's tutorials on flash, it was because he was annoying that I learned
I feel like painting Ben Folds to better understand blending, I did a quick sketch up of him since I was just reunited with my tablet. If you haven't heard the song, "There's always someone cooler than you" follow the link and enjoy
I can get to the crosshatch phase in under ten minutes, I'm a little proud of my speed, not so much the accuracy though.
Still need the cross hatch layer on otherwise it looks like crap, I need some more practice I guess.
Any advice would be nice.
keep doing what you're doing! I think you're doing awesome.
I'm as finished as I'm ever going to be. You just lose will after a while
Ever had a thing for your professor? I'm working on this one out of mere principle.
Alright so I decided to lay off on another user and his stupid antics that are in regards to making women look like stiff mannequins with no emotional purpose by getting back into the swing of things.
Take notes Hiryu. Women like to use their body to be sexual
Standing still = boring
