- sounds nothing like the actual instrument at all? Like humming a instrumental piece of music which ordinarily would sound diverse and great but when hummed sounds utterly bland and generic and has no actual style to it other than following a rough guide of the pitch of the piece?
Hopefully you do, as I do it, and I would like to not be alone on that.
Oh I definitely, definitely do. I like to try and find harmonies in songs when I hum and just make noises aswell.

I can press my middle and forefinger together and then press the to mine lips to make a sound like a violin. If I use my thumb and two index fingers I can make a sound like a saxaphone. So it must just be you that's bland.
I usually just hum along to the vocal melodies, or since alot of the music I listen to utilizes synthesizers, I hum along to the synth line. Even though a person singing and a synthesizer are very different sounds, I just hum along with the same weird noise for both. I'd be hard pressed to DESCRIBE the noise I make, though
I whistle all the time because I have pet birdies!
The sig that I'm wearin? Awesomely made by Skaren!
Also, I like annoying Americans by calling English football "real football" and American football "rugby".-Lost-Chances

Aww cute. I don't really have anything else to say other than it is cute though so this post is mostly useless.
I repeat the songs in my own mind exactly as I heard them.

Not quite sure what you are saying. Just humming the melody? Of course it won't sound as good as the actual song.
