Who else here wakes up on a daily basis and, no matter how long you sleep, you wake up feeling like complete and utter shit?

This has always been the case with me; currently, this cup of black tea seems to be helping me at least somewhat. I'm not going to say that it's a major cause of concern just yet, as I'm under the impression this happens to most people. But, it's a pain in the ass to sleep for a solid eight to nine hours and wake up feeling worse than before I fell asleep.

I'm sure many of you are in the same position.

Perhaps you should invest in a better mattress? I don't really know what the problem with that is, but there are a number of reasons for bad sleep. Maybe you have sleep apnea. Do you snore a lot?

You gotta wake up between 2 sleep cycles. I do that everyday and I'm always feeling fresh in the morning.

Every time I wake up I long for it to be night time again, or at least nap time. Mornings are my most hated time of day. I had conditoned myself whilst at uni to only be able to function on around ten hours sleep, which I dont get anymore so it just leaves me feeling like I've been hit by a truck.

I don't know what I'm going to do when I finish uni. I fucking hated those early mornings at school - they were genuinely the worst part of my day. I suppose if you give yourself enough time to rise slowly, you'll feel less relaxed in the morning. Treating yourself also helps to soften the blow, whether with food or whatever (yep, I'm sure some people are having dirty thoughts at this point).


Give my thoughts form and make them look insightful.

Try not to eat or smoke before bed, as it leaves you waking up feeling about the same as when you went to sleep - obviously that is not the desired effect. Have a smallish glass of water, brush your teeth, make sure you get your vitamins through the day. Take a break from the computer before sleeping; read maybe.

Yeah, there's so much it could be. Snoring or sleep apnea can do it.

I always feel exhausted no matter how much I sleep but I saw an endocrinologist and I'm having issues with my adrenal glands. That's rare, and probably not your reason.

If you're putting in 8 hours or more and have a decent mattress and still feeling it, I'd go see a doctor.

Yeah, I have that problem, too. I feel like crap most mornings.
Not sure it's because of my mattress that's 10-13 years old, or some other strange reason.

I find that when I sleep in too late I actually feel more tired than I do when I get up a bit early.

Now and then. Sometimes I sleep for, like, five hours and I'm completely refreshed when I get up. Naps, on the other hand, are always miserable. I hate those and I never nap.

I feel shitty every morning. And if I stay in bed longer I start feeling shittier. I used to love sleeping in too. I dont know what happened.

Not me. Whenever I wake up I always feel refreshed and ready for the day. Some people are just not morning people and their body might need some time to adjust to being back awake.

This is a fairly probable cause, IMO. If you're being woken up by an alarm and you feel like crap, it's probably waking up at the wrong point in the cycle that's creating issues.

Another thing that I find helps is to keep your blinds open enough that you wake up to daylight, and try to spend less time around artificial light(or try to make the lighting less bright) an hour or two before going to sleep.

I don't ever really wake up feeling like shit. If I have to be up early (6:30am) then I'm usually a little reluctant to get out of bed, especially now that mornings are getting colder. If I've been out drinking the night before then I'll wake up feeling dehydrated and maybe have a bit of a headache but it's never serious enough to make me feel really crappy.

did you stay up late? ideally, you should have about seven hours of sleep. you might feel tired in the next morning if you have too much or too little sleep.

you might want to think that it does not matter when you go to bed as long as you have slept of a few hours. this is not quite true in general. your body recovers from stress less effectively if you don't go to bed within a certain time frame (say 11 pm- 12am)

I'm like this. At times I could sleep for twelve hours straight and still feel as tired as when my head hit pillow, but at others I can feel completely refreshed after only three hours of sleep, which has been occurring more and more recently.
