Five Paragraph Summary of Story 2012-09-22 05:33:00 Reply

From my blog: The Blog of Thadan the Unliving

Alright, the five paragraph summary is done and IâEUTMll be spending the next two days writing character synopses for Step Five, hopefully to do at least four a day (Romau, Aldemos, Kayrra, and EtâEUTMther tomorrow; Enlen, Adonna, Chani, and Marasiel on Sunday). This synopsis only 839 words, however IâEUTMve been working on the four page summary in tandem to this so I believe itâEUTMs acceptable.

When all the steps of the Snowflake method are done, they will be released again with the revisions every day (except the first two, which will be together). This is better than making one giant blog post like I did the last time.

So, without further ado, enjoy the synopsis and let me know how it is. Your feedback is critical to me.

________

After a skirmish with demons, Romau, a practitioner of Thoughtsmithing aka conjuring and tempering weapons with the mind, is granted leave by his commander to discuss the "personal mission" Chani mentioned in her letter to him. He reunites with his lover Kayrra, Kayrra's best friend Et'ther, and his former best friend Aldemos, who was also asked by Chani for the mission, promising graduation. After seeing Chani has been infected with demon blood, being given the details of the mission (venture into infested mine and gather infected blood to be used for a potential cure, and learning that Kayrra has been taking care of her at the risk of being excommunicated, they both agree to put aside their differences to save Chani and Kayrra's future.

After a brief visit to their hometown, they learn an exorcist with a platoon of Templars is on their way to investigate, forcing them to leave their families early. Offered a large sum by the Count for clearing the mine and a bonus for cleansing a sanctuary in the mine, the group arrive at the mine, only to be ambushed with a wave of infected corpses of miners who were presumed to be caved in, but alive. Extracting the demon blood for the cure, Romau goes on ahead to the sanctuary to cleanse it only to recieve a vision: the deaths of Chani and Kayrra. Convinced it is a ploy by a powerful demon; Romau leaves the shrine to inform the group, only to find the other knights dead with Aldemos' blade covered in blood, writhing in pain. He's been possessed. Aldemos begs Romau to kill him as he is possessed by the Archdemon Marasiel. Aldemos claims to know a holy phrase that will force out any demon, claiming he is in control of his mind. Romau is tricked into saying a corrupted holy phrase for exorcisms by the Archdemon. Marasiel enters Romau's mind with him collapsing from an influx of memories of past possessions and visions of beings with wings of pure mana killing people.

Being brought to the inn by Aldemos, Romau is greeted by an unknown woman who claims to be the Archdemon Marasiel. When Aldemos comes in, Marasiel disappears into Romau's mind. After a fierce argument over whether or not Aldemos should've died or Romau should have accepted the demon, the innkeeper's assistant comes and brings in the exorcist from the Ackad Confederacy known as Enlen Druesttur and his assistant Adonna. Enlen finds nothing and the duo prepares for their trip back, only to find Romau left his vial of blood. When arriving at the inn, Enlen sees Romau's vial of infected blood and demands an answer. Romau claims it's regarding research into a possible arcane craft that can mitigate influence of demons and Aldemos backs him up reluctantly, claiming it was a special mission from the Bishop in Corinth. Enlen, knowing the claiming to know man well, wisks them off and asks to give the man his regards. However, Enlen knew they were lying from the start and needs more information regarding their intentions, writing a letter to the Templars in Corinth to watch them. Knowing they failed to convince him, Marasiel confirms that an apothecary who can create the cure lives in a village on the way to Corinth, though they need to make a two day detour, claiming he is a persona acquaintance. Aldemos denies it, claiming he heard no such thing and that the demon is blatantly lying. Romau presses on.

Romau arrives in Freyhurst and encounters a drug dealer named Munt, who Marasiel greets. Munt turns out to be her acquantance, a fellow demon. When asked why a demon is living such a life, Marasiel claims it is unimportant and Munt asks to come to his house by dawn. They comply. However, Aldemos arrives in Corinth only to be captured and jailed by the Templars. Romau returns to Munt's house for the cure, which was successful. Munt claims it needs to be placed in her bloodstream as the cultured blood cells from the infected will help fight and weaken the virus. Romau reluctantly thanks Munt, and Munt claims he is merely glad his debt to Marasiel is paid.

Romau arrives only to see Chani and her sonâEUTMs corpses at the hands of EnlenâEUTMs Templars and betrayed by Aldemos. Kayrra and Romau, with a talisman barring communication and mana flow from Marasiel, are arrested and tortured together, but hold strong when Romau promises theyâEUTMll escape and get married. Enlen, however, tortures Kayrra to death before Romau could free himself. Romau murders Enlen via his newfound ability of conjuring swords through gates of Hell and controlling them by his own will and tries to kill Adonna until a group of Templars overhear the commotion and Romau is restrained having become exhausted by mana depletion. Romau is sentenced by death by the Grimsever, an enchanted axe which upon beheading a demon (or one who has made a pact with a demon) obliterates their soul. Romau is whisked away in an armored caravan to Echthald as Aldemos watches from afar.
