What is it about reaching that 1,000 post (oh fuck I wasted my 1,000 post btw praise allah) or going from level two to level three that seems so important to the human mind. Do you feel rewarded that you wasted your life making 1,000 shitty posts like I did on something that doesn't physically exists or can alter the variables of life in a dramatic fashion?

Did I mention I wasted my 1,000 post on a shitty topic? I think I didn't.

Stat whores cn be annoying as fuck, if it's all they care about. On the other hand, some of the best people I've known have been stat whores in one way or another. It's just something about the human mind that gets off on achievement, even if that is something like "Did the washing up 20 times".

I'm indifferent towards stat whores. If they want to focus on getting their Newgrounds' stats up there is nothing wrong with that.

Is the answer "Because I ENJOY it" not good enough anymore??

Seems to be enough justification for most of the world, I don't see why stat whoring would be any different.

Yeah. I'm a big stat whore (duh I know) but I don't think I've ever once on this site used my stats against another user to belittle them or to make me feel self-important. I know having the stats I do on a site I won't popular forever IS sad but regardless I enjoy being that sad right now. Keep me entertained so I keep on stating. For my pleasure and no one elses.

Exactly. It should only be used in a negative connotation if someone is being a dick about it. If someone just enjoys doing it then let them be.

You truly aren't important until you've reached 3593 posts.

Oh, will you look at that?

That's fair enough. Even being proud of your stats is a good thing, I think, as long as you aren't using your "10,000,000 images viewed/reviews written/e-peens sucked" to bring anyone down.

Everybody wants validation, and on the internet everyone thinks they are some sort of celebrity and are worth knowing about. Stats are just a quantifiable thing that they can lord over others with fewer stats making themselves feel, in a rather weak way, superior.

It is somewhat related to the way people act in a group. Each individual has a trait or skill that they have unique to the group they are in, they will use this skill to set themselves apart from the others. This could be anything from a stupid trick, to their job/income/possessions, to their knowledge of useful/useless information, the list goes on. Each individual will try to find at least ONE thing that they have better/more of/unique to the others in the group, something special that they can bring to the table that makes them just a tad bit more special in one aspect. And since on the internet its difficult to prove any of those normal traits, people rely on stats to fill in for their absence.

As a matter of fact, I do. I do feel quite rewarded whenever my stats reaches a milestone.

The concept of statwhoring is all about "grinding", as some would call it. One of the main aspects about stats and obtaining them is accumulation, a little bit by bit. If you ever want to become a statwhore then you have to be willing to be patient to reach the top of the lists. Think about it - people with 100,000+ B/P points or 30,000+ experience didn't obtain all of that stuff overnight, it took dedication and shit.

I'm not saying that they shouldn't be dedicated to something that they love contributing to, but does the stat really give back any positive reward in the real world?

Does any video game give back any positive reward in the real world?

Other than back problems and somewhat better hand eye coordination? No.

I don't know what it is, but without that motivation, then I'm pretty sure that video games wouldn't be as popular as they are now.

I think without the satisfaction that motivates achievement many things wouldn't exist.

The only reason I give a damn about stats is so I can more easily get rid of flashes that are absolute garbage. I've been here since 2008 and I still have only a bit more than 1,000 posts, whereas most people have about four or five thousand in that time span.

And seeing that you're an 08 user with mod powers just shows how careless the staff are giving modship to little kids that will ban anything that they disagree with.

Just kidding, have a good one.
