Response to Windows, Mac, or Linux? Sep. 16th, 2012 @ 01:04 PM Reply

I tried dual booting Ubuntu Linux and Windows XP, but I couldn't get the Linux to access the internet with the wireless adapter I had. So I scratched that and got a clean plate of Windows XP. I tried Windows 7, and I feel it is a pretty good system, but I didn't really do anything intensive on it. As for Mac, I have also tried that at other places like computer labs and things, and for some reason I really like the feel of the keyboard, though the mouse is a bit irritating to use.

So I am mostly a windows guy unless I have to use something else, in which case I am open to other things.

I like OSX and Windows, never tried Linux, but as I play a lot of games and Windows has the best program compatibility I roll with that.

I've used both Windows and Macs. Never used Linux before. In most cases I prefer using Windows, although Mac OS isn't bad.

I run Windows 7 on my gaming rig and Mac OSX/ WinXP on my Mac
I gotta say that at the moment, I prefer Win7, mostly because it's what I'm most suited to.
I know where everything is.
OSX is definitely not bad, it's fast and all that, but I really do prefer windows.
I have yet to try Linux, but I am thinking of putting it on my old laptop, since it cant run the WDDM drivers or whatever on Win 7.

Ubuntu is better than Windows, and with Windows 8 doing shittier than ever. It's best to switch to some other OS.
I do have a virtual box for whenever I need to use windows, so it's not like I'm completely cut off from windows really.

I agree with some people on here. For some unclear reason, Mac is so damn popular in university/college/high-school.

It's a matter of preference.

I don't think that Macs are inherently worse but they're expensive and certainly a bad deal from the consumer's perspective, especially since I can build my own PC.

I prefer Windows because it's the operating system I first used, back when I was a child. I think it was Windows 2000?
Windows 2000 and XP are my favorites, but now of course I use Windows 7 (with a classic theme).

I like Linux but not for day to day use. I only use it for some of my programming and certain open source programs.

Because it's a good balance of ergonomics, aesthetics while being open-source. There's a lot of support for it already because it's relatively widely-used.

Because Ubuntu is the most supported and most recognized flavor of Linux. Most people develop specifically for Ubuntu Linux and only Ubuntu. If you are a person looking to convert to Linux, and compatibility is your key concern, Ubuntu is the closest you will get for an answer.

Yeah but I meant for like an average person using a single windows OS.

I have a Mac, since it's more user friendly and doesn't have as many viruses for it.

Sure, I can't play games, but I don't really give a fuck about vidya anymore really. I have better things to do.

in summary, people at least need to make more .deb files >:(

i honestly think that ubuntu is a pretty good transition into linux, and if you want to just browse facebook or whatever the fuck then you shouldn't even think about paying for an operating system and just use ubuntu (or mint if it ever gets its shit back together again)

Linux Mint should be renamed to Linux Shit. Also, Ubuntu is based on Debian, so .deb files should work given you have the dependencies for said .deb file.

Vista is only horrible if you're a dumbass who doesn't know how to use it. Windows 7 is fucking amazing though, so even people like you can use it.

It's lighter weight. Windows 7 ran at the speed of snail on my old IBM so I just installed XP.

Actually, I installed XP, realized I lost the key, and then installed Windows 2000. You get the point though.

If their computer isn't older it's because they're nerds that are still butthurt about Window's Vista sucking.

the thing is with .deb files is that it's easier to port them to other distros that use different package managers
