Why?
One of the few countries in the world that has successfully defended itself for almost 1000 years despite numerous invasion attempts. Defeated Napoleon when most of Europe had already fallen. The only European power to repel the Nazi invasion. Controlled the greatest empire mankind has ever known. The British are officially the most inventive people in the world and built the first true electronic computer. Britain even spawned other great nations with just it's social effluent, Australia with it's criminals and the US with it's fanatical religious outcasts. The English language is the richest known and has been adopted by countless other nations. Not bad for a "small" country. Perhaps other nations 50 times bigger should have accomplished things 50 times better.

You're an idiot. Britain is OK. If you dont mind facist Home Secretaries and Prime Ministers that look like fools, it's fine. The Royal Family have no power. At all. You really can't say they spawned America. We basically kept slapping their hands so they would let go. Then we got France to crouch behind them and pushed them over France on their back. They may be a great country, but if a fledgling group of colonies can successfully win a war against them, they can't be that great.
That being said, I have great respect for Britain, as my heritage traces from there. They are a better nation than most, but my vote for best country still firmly rests on Canada or Finland.
Britain doesn't exist anymore. Scotland and Wales practically run themselves, while Northern Ireland is a lost cause. There is no 'British Empire' to speak of, save maybe Gibraltar and even then, we are told what to do by Bush on one side of us and Brussels on the other.

Yeah, but I've seen enough videos of them shooting Iraqui Cicvilians to persuade me that they're not ALL angels...
that's why japan was suffering from a major recession last i checked, their economy is in a transition where lots of manufacturing is being taken overseas where it's cheaper, and i believe they are planning to build an unneccessary airport.(been a while since i heard anything about that, could have changed)
suffice to say that japan, while economically progressive, is not the holy grail of countries.
they have incredibly high rates of violent crime to name but one problem.
not that i don't love japan, it's just heavily misrepresented in western media.(they're not all shemale schoolgirls who enjopy being raped by penis shaped tentcles, unfortunately.)

Actually some analysts believe that China may overtake Japan in their economic power eventually.
On to the main topic, Britain has had an incredible history and has to be one of the best countries in what it has achieved in History.
Still I think that Britain owes a lot of success to it separation from the mainland of Europe by the sea. If Britain had been connected to Europe by land then I think Britain would have been invaded successfully quite a few times.

Yes Britain is great and yes the bloody yanks steal all of our ideas,but they can still mess the middle east up with no help.
