This is discouraged on the Art forum, and it will be here as well.
Here's to hoping the aversion catches on. I'm sure it will, most of the audio regulars seem to be pretty good at shunning people.

The audio forum is the second worst forum for people breaking the rules... behind none other than General. It's only natural the regs would be fairly aggressive after a while.

Fortunately, it's been a bit better lately.

Sounds great, I already scouted one user who's audio I thought was pretty neat! Although I'm just curious... people see this in a PM when they're invited to the Art Portal, right? That's what I've heard. So what do they see when they get the same invite to the Audio Portal?

People who are scouted for the Audio Portal get a PM from A-Bot saying they've been scouted (And who by) and give them an option to accept or deny.

I think it would keep the mods approving, but after submissions go through the scouting process, to prevent embarrassment.

Haha, I wish I got that in a PM when I was scouted. No, I think BFP is right. When I got into the art portal I just got a message from P-Bot telling me I had been scouted and gave me the option to accept or deny. No fancy pictures.

Maybe there should be, though.

Fantastic, i simply cannot wait to be unscouted by the first random passers by i spite by producing a track not to their taste so i can go fade back into complete obscurity.

Allso, i predict the shadlingrounds effect of the art portal to spill over, never thought i'd say it but perhaps it's a good thing paragonx is not overly active anymore.

Is it such a tremendous stretch to implement a system akin to the flash portal?

I.e voting having an impact in terms of a submission being around or not and users being able to blow the whistle on stuff that's intended to harm eardrums or contains copyrighted material?

As is people barely vote on submissions relative to the number of listens/views and all bad scores do is spark lengthy rants and crying sessions about zero bombers by artists.

At 9/11/12 10:57 AM, PsychoGoldfish wrote: I just installed the first iteration of the Audio Scout system. Anyone familiar with the art portal will know what this is, but for those who don't, here's what it is:

http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/member/unscouted_list/

Up until today, any new artist had to sit around with their thumb up their ass hoping a moderator would approve them. Now, any audio artist who is approved to submit to the portal can browse the list above ans scout for talent.

When you scout a user, they will be sent a confirmation request informing them you are trying to make them audio portal members. Once they accept your invitation, their stuff will be listed in the portal. This should make it a LOT easier to get people included in the audio community and when a new breakout artist comes along, one of you guys will have the bragging rights of being the user that scouted them.

You WILL be accountable for who you scout, however. If you invite a bunch of blatant rule breakers, or people simply submitting complete shit, the moderators can not only ban you, they can prune your membership. This will unapprove your memebership to the audio portal along with that of everyone you scouted, everyone they scouted, and so on.

Keep in mind, this is still an early version of this system, and there will eventually be more refinements to it. I just wanted to give it a bit of a soft launch to make sure the core functions all work before I get too far ahead.

The next update will most likely involve a way for all logged in users to look at unscouted submissions. Users will then be able to recommend users making it easier for talent scouts to fish out the diamonds on the rough.

I'm not too worried about that whole Shadling thing either. Most of the people who like his art are only fans because they get off to the porn he draws, and if someone was making audio that people were consistently getting off to then I think they'd deserve some recognition for it.

Well that's just a hunch i have, the audio portal will inevitably get a prominent star too if this pans out like the art portal.

I'm all for rewarding somebody who is succesfull, no criticism here.

We've already got some prominent artists with tons of fans and some of them are overrated. I won't name names because opinion wars never get anywhere, but that kind of thing happens everywhere regardless of how quality is filtered.

Also hi, welcome to the BBS.

Thanks.

I probably should have phrased the stuff like questions as that's what they really are.

Just a bit anxious i might get arbitrarily jackbooted out of my current priviledge of posting tracks which i value rather highly but i take it i got alarmed over nothing.

Just gonna point out, even if you are unscouted, doesn't mean you can't post tracks anymore... the only thing that will stop you from posting tracks is getting banned, and that will only happen if you break the rules. And with the new system, bans are no longer permanent, meaning even if you get banned, you'll be able to post again once it wears off.

Does this apply retroactively? It would seem silly to arbitrarily decide that just because the scouting system was applied on one day rather than another, people who were banned prior to that date will still be permanently banned.

Actually, that's a good question... I'm not sure, if someone knows anyone that was banned prior to the change, have them shoot me a PM, or just PM me their name, and I'll check that out.

God knows I don't remember all the people that have been banned over the years.

Scratch that, I managed to find someone who asked about a ban in my inbox. It appears it is not retroactive, so we are unable to unban people that were banned before the scouting system was put in place.

Glad to see this new system going into effect. Hopefully this will work as well as it did with the Art Portal. Either way, I am looking forward to allowing new talent into the system.

Wait wait wait. I like the idea but this seems really fucking ass-backwards.

I've been submitting music to the AP for the past six years. You're telling me if I stumble across an artist that just happens to have some good stuff pending but later decides to break a rule down the road after I scout them, I'm going to to loose my good standing?

Well forget that, they can just rot in purgatory I'm not account status in jeopardy. Even if I'm supposed to babysit whoever I scout, I can't remember to do that all the time, hell having one person is too much to worry about I can't even remember to eat breakfast let alone check in on someone regularly.

If you guys refine this I'm all for helping newbies get their game on, but as is I'm not touching this with a 10-ft pole, because all I see is a dunk machine slyly disguised as content.

Why in the fuck do people feel that they have to turn this

"If you invite a bunch of blatant rule breakers, or people simply submitting complete shit, the moderators can not only ban you, they can prune your membership."

into this?

"If you scout one person and that person breaks a rule later, you will automatically be banned"

Why? What's the point?

I think this is a bad idea because it would be just as bad as the art portal. Someone could scout someone eles with stolen audio, and both of them would be in trouble.

Personally I wish the audio portal would rather be under a legal Marxist-Leninist system; having the audio mods know what to do. I don't know what stolen do I?

Also I just realized that were making music here and not art. Arts just a thin image with lines colors and shapes. And music is layers of beats and progressions.

No, you're talking about painting. Both music and painting are arts. Different arts. But people consider both of them art.
So not really relevant.
