Music Composer Needed (video Game) Sep. 7th, 2012 @ 06:38 PM

Hello, I have been on newgrounds for quite a while and finally I am in need for a music composer for my game.

This game is on the Source Engine and is a multi-player game. I am looking for a talented musician to make multiple songs for menu and in game areas. We currently have a few levels going, concept art, and digital art.

We are looking for someone who is able to use emotion in their songs and make it more of an ambiance song.

Below is an early version of one of the logos.

Also an early work in progress of a map that is currently being worked on.
(VERY EARLY W.I.P WILL NOT BE FINAL PRODUCT)

A bit more info would be needed, if you don't mind. I know you're probably not much aware of the musical lingo, but if you could give a vague description of what emotion, what genre, what length, and - most importantly - if it is payed (if so, how much).

Depending on these answers we can filter out most of the candidates.

The emotion would be different for different areas of the game, but for say the main menu it would be alone/sad yet still have the beat to keep you going, Genre would be more classical/action if that makes sense lol. Length would be determined if it loops or not, if it loops hey could be a minute long, if not would probably need to be 3-4 minutes long but again, dependent on song. Unfortunately this is NOT a paid position, this is for people who enjoy and love doing what they do best.

Are you looking for a single person to do BOTH in-game audio AND music composition?

Not sure exactly the music term for it, but basically what I need is this person to make the music that would entail the menu music, and the in-game music. I would give some examples of the types of music I feel that would improve the game or menus.

Hi! The logo and screenshot you posted show a great deal of promise and I'd be honored to collaborate with you. Emotion filled classical music is a specialty for me. Here are some examples of sad pieces that I have composed.

Game over music:

  • A mournful soul
    A mournful soul by BlazingDragon

    Sad Scene Music

    Score
    4.46 / 5.00

    Loop

Piano/harp music:

  • Sanctuary
    Sanctuary by BlazingDragon

A young girl prays for her father's safe return from the battlefield.

    Score
    4.58 / 5.00

Haunting music:

  • Beautiful Betrayal

    Score

Dark menu music:

  • Time Forever Gone

    The past can't be changed.

  • -Train of Thought-
    -Train of Thought- by BlazingDragon

    A contemplative piano piece

    Score
    4.36 / 5.00
    Type
    Song
    Genre
    Classical
    Popularity
    3,576 Views

I can also do energetic, action oriented orchestral music. The following piece would obviously not fit the dark tone of your game but demonstrates my ability to write faster, more energetic music:

  • Children's Overture
    Children's Overture by BlazingDragon

A musical depiction of life as seen by a child

    Score
    4.23 / 5.00
    Type
    Song
    Genre
    Classical
    Popularity
    372 Views

It seems that you are serious and passionate about your game, and that is very appealing to me. I'd love to work with you to make an emotional final product. Let me know if you are interested in what you here, and thank you for listening. :)

Hey there,

Game looks great so far! It seems like you have plenty of people willing to write music, but I figure I'll at least offer my own hand at it since sorrowful/dark orchestral is one of the few things I consider myself good at. XD

Here are three sorrowful/dark pieces that might fit the sort of build you are looking for, as an example-

  • Woes 'n Sorrows
    Woes 'n Sorrows by samulis

    A sad little piece.

    Score
    4.58 / 5.00
    Type
    Loop
    Genre
    Classical
    Popularity
    265 Views
  • A Melancholy Evening
    A Melancholy Evening by samulis

Short and sorrowful orchestral piece featuring strings.

    Score
    4.46 / 5.00
    Type
    Song
    Genre
    Classical
    Popularity
    694 Views
  • Dark Spirits
    Dark Spirits by samulis

    Dark and mysterious orchestral piece.

    Score
    4.60 / 5.00
    Type
    Song
    Genre
    Classical
    Popularity
    607 Views

In addition, if you end up with a composer who doesn't do sound effects, I wouldn't mind helping with sounds if you need them.

Good luck!

Goddamnit, what is up with people reviving dead threads in the vain hope that the didn't already find his man? I'm pretty sure if he didn't find it he'd have actually told us.

I wouldn't count on that. You could also say that he might still need something because he hasn't posted that he's found what he's looking for.

You're demonstrating a BFP-style thought process, and that leads to a lot of locked threads that shouldn't have needed to be locked.

Indeed. Didn't the OP himself say that he'd tell us (on this thread, we can presume) if he found someone? He'd have (and he'd do to have) the decency to do that, then. Until then, when the gates are still open, people shall go in and submit.

Well idk, you do have a point, but isn't a 9-day spacing between the last person to have submitted and a total lack of try from OP to express the fact he still has yet to find a composer a good indication that he's either found someone or is in the process of negotiating with one?

Just IMO, of course, I just really feel some people scavenge and post at whatever has the title "Composer needed" without actually checking the date or actual requirements.

Hola senior, I sent you an email but I'll post here just in case.

I love making ambience music and just recently had one of my pieces used in the new Slendeman game as the intro and outro :D

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qinThhkCEiU

This one is another of my favorites, these are most horror ambience so they aren't too instrumental but I do that as well.

Hi there.

What you may not be aware about is that music composition for any game isn't just about having a complete
piece of music. It needs to be layered and to move in a non-linear fashion that it would in a movie or tv program,
so that it reflects the players choices or informs the [layer of in game decisions or content or threats or rewards.

Composing for games is completely different and, if you're not careful, it will hurt all your hard work. (which looks great btw!)

Take a look at my work, give me an e-mail if you want. (www.russjohnsonhq.com) My scores have been mixed at 20th Century Fox and Twickenham Studios. Don't hand over your hard work to someone just because they are a 'composer' and they 'have a piece of music'.

^This.

Now Russ, I couldn't care less who you are. As a compatriot (judging by your e-mail address), I can and will berate you. Whether your music is mixed at the best studios or otherwise, you ain't gonna go far if you keep up with that attitude. The people over here on Newgrounds know what hard work is, and they know at least how to give others a degree of respect for it.

Case in point of not going far, OP has already FOUND a musician. So there.
