If you don't know, COW stands for Creature Of the Week it is a weekly art competition. There are no physical prizes, its just for fun and practice (and fame and glory). Anyone and everyone, no matter of your skill level can participate.
This weeks theme is, Excrement Eater... Yes... that's right... Shit Eater!!
I went to the zoo today and they had dung beetles. I was so fascinated and at the same time disgusted... and it hit me that it would be the perfect theme for this week :D
So, your job is to design a creature that feeds on poop... yum!
The rules...
- Only one entry per user for voting.
- Original characters only.
- No old stuff... make new art.
- No human likenesses.
- No real-life animals.
- Put effort in.
- have fun :)
The deadline is Monday, September 17th. So its a little bit longer than a week.

lol yes!!! Really you just need to draw an ugly creature. It's easy. Doesn't even matter if it's deformed.
This is going to be good.
I might join in on it

this c.o.w. seems a lot harder and (let me say that) rather vague. i mean, a lot of animals let alone the fly and the dung beetle are coprophagous: dogs, hippos, butterflies, monkeys. it is a natural way of reintegrate nutritive elements not yet digested. there are no real distinctive elements that make a coprophagous animal recognizable. it would have been better even if the theme was herbivores, since coprophagous animals can be herbivore, carnivore or omnivore. i'd add some more details or a background, because if not every creature design is acceptable and the contest will turn in a confused animal mix without a real theme to follow.

It's up to you to incorporate the theme in your creature. A tip can be to think of what animal would actually be called "dung-eater" or something along those lines. Make it one of it's most prolific features. Sure you can go lots of ways with this but that doesn't mean you have to; what happened to ye olde "come up with your own ideas"?

ok, that said c.o.w. should have a theme, a theme which can be recognized only through the visual aspect of the entry, no further explanations. now saying "go drawing a dung-eater" is like saying "go drawing a biological being", since every species, or class, or order of beings, from bacteria to whales, can be coprophagous. i could come up with any design yet you couldn't tell if it's appropriate or not. that's what i'm saying. the good thing about this contest is that it makes your imagination work inside certain limits and makes you concentrate on one aspect: you are then forced to think to the most original idea respecting those canons and that's a really good exercise, useful also from a professional point of view.
for example i would have liked much more a "Necrophagy" themed c.o.w. it has more sense, since necrophagous animals are far more distinguishable than coprophagous ones.
i don't want to ruin the contest, i'm just saying that not every behaviour or aspect can be taken as a theme.
xty3x is right, nonetheless i pooped out a drawing.
Its a reptile/rat thingy, cus i thought a poop eater would probably live in the sewer.

No.... He's not. Its your job to show the viewer a poop eater. So, whether the creature is shoving poop in his mouth with pooper scooper hands or there is shit in his teeth or sucking it through a straw, somehow you have to portray a creature that eats shit... If you draw a creature standing there fiddling with his nuts hows the viewer gonna know he eats poop... So when someone looks at it they should say "oh! That creature eats doodie"

Final version of my entry.
The surroundings almost ended up looking more disgusting then the creature,
but then I added some hair to it and now they look equally gross.
