BIG's indie game competition 2012-09-02 17:57:53 Reply

You can skip this part if you don't really care about introductions. Hello there. I'm miff009 (although my newer NG account is this one), I'm on the second year of a game design major in Brazil. I used to visit NG very often when I was but a hatchling and during that period got myself familiarized with Flash. Years have passed and now I'm working with an independent games festival in Brazil.

My job description is fairly specific, and I'd like to make it clear that I was not asked to post here or in any other forums, I come to you by my own decision because I myself want more awesome games to be made available in our showcase as well and on top of that, competing for the grand prize. I've made a slightly more formal post on indieDB as they do offer a specific (although fairly dire) competition subforum.

BIG is hosting a competition between pretty much any indie developer that has made a game within the last two years and wants to participate. There are no submission fees or complicated registration processes, there are no referrals either (I really don't want to get anybody worked up in regards to NG rules).

The main prize consists of 15,000 USD and the best developers will also gain a paid trip to Brazil. We're also offering many more prizes, the most interesting one to flash developers being the best web game one. The complete list is as follows:

Best Game (Trophy and approx. 15,000 USD)
Best Art (Trophy and approx. 1,000 USD)
Best Sound(Trophy and approx. 1,000 USD)
Best Narrative(Trophy and approx. 1,000 USD)
Best Gameplay(Trophy and approx. 1,000 USD)
Best Online Game, available on the BIG Site (Trophy and approx. 2,500 USD)
Audience Award(Best Game By Popular Vote) (Trophy)

We're also offering big prizes for our local 24h survival game jam and to the best Brazilian devs, although those do not apply to most of you so I've removed them from the list. To compete for the Best Online Game award, you must allow us to host your game on our website so it can be voted on by the visitors, you can easily opt out of this category and participate in all the others if you prefer.

The competition is open games developed for any electronic platform and made anywhere in the world. All competing games must be content-complete in regards to what was planned for release, but they don't have to be released to participate.

You can easily see the complete rules at this address and if you have any trouble you can contact me at info@bigfestival.com.br or @BIG_Festival on Twitter. I'll also be checking the threads (I've asked around the NG chat and people suggested posting this both on Flash and General, if this is wrong - by any means delete them).

You may also find us on Facebook, and our news are mostly posted through Tumblr.

To submit a game you have to create an account on BIG's websiteand then fill the submission form (don't worry, everything's free).

Dude, I think this is an inappropriate forum for this kind of thing.

Really? :/
I made sure to ask around first so as not to get anybody mad.

If anybody else can also confirm this we can all just report it so it gets deleted, right?

More shit indie games, awesome.

All right, I'm just being a dick there. Most of them will probably be at least decent.

Well, since this is about game developing, I would prefer the Programming and Flash forum, depending in what language you want the games to be made.

You're both idiots. This should go in the video games forum.

I figured the Video Games forum would discuss mostly games, not including festivals showcasing games.
Again, if this is by any means not following the ways of NG, I have no problem at all with it being deleted - I just wanted to make sure more developers knew that they could participate of this freely and openly.

Looking at OwnageGiy223 old posts you can clearly see he's an obvious troll and you're right about the Video game forum being to discuss games, don't listen to him. Follow Mownkey's advise and post this in the flash and programing forum.

Right, don't put a thread involving video games in the video games forum. Fucking kids these days, I swear.

Eh, the forums are as specific as you wanna make them. But, yeah. The Video Games forum would probably be the best place for this.

I wouldn't want to have the exact same topic in 3-4 forum sections, that sounds like going too far...

Simply being on Flash and General should be enough as both get attention and I actually hope that some people actually tell their friends who develop games about it as they really have nothing to lose :)

You don't have to do either to participate, though - unless you want to compete for the Brazilian Breakthrough prize.

The competition is open to pretty much anybody, for free.

Hey guys, if you're having trouble understanding the website, you can switch to English on the top right corner. I've received some reports about it appearing in Portuguese to international IPs on Reddit.

I think this is cool. Good money to be made by talented people.
